how much timing does a 24valve have

Wanna see the dyno sheet proving otherwise? Same power curve and peak numbers as a regular comp until 2800 in which case the drag comp holds out to 3200 and makes 40hp more than the regular comp. Got the sheets from an SO and can get em for an HO truck. Both are 01.5 trucks running the same comps. People have been saying that the drag comp adds more power for years but every time they do a back to back they find out otherwise.

I remember us switching them on the dyno.. I think he picked up 2-4hp peak.. (that could have been from anything.) but more further down the curve..(higher rpms) but I tried a few different regular Comps.. and none drove as strong as my Drag Comp.. but they dynoed about the same peak...
They were all older versions.. I don't remember the numbers.. but its been a few yrs ago..

Put a timing light on your truck an see what you get.........lol

IKE

A time track or light is the only way you will know.. but good luck finding a starting point.. It can be done.. just take some work.. but have fun watching that light going down the road.. haha.. I guess you could do it on the dyno..

That's when you get a really good buddy of yours really drunk and ask him to sit on the engine while you drive down the road. LOL

Hey Tyler! Buddy, I need a favor. Remember when you needed connector tubes.:hehe::evil

It was an older version. I'll have to call and get the one for the drag comp cause I sold my comp years ago. And blowing more smoke out the pipe doesn't mean anything. Go get on a dyno and test a regular comp vs. a drag comp back to back. If I'm wrong I'm wrong and I'd like to be proven wrong. But I've heard for years of the drag comp fueling harder and making more peak power but either A no one has the sheets to prove it or B they get on the dyno and find out otherwise.

Mike D, I'll try and get them up by this weekend.

Im pretty sure there is a different version now. On my old 01 truck, I had the comp then I sent it off to be upgraded to the drag. When I got it back I wasnt real impressed other than it fueled to 3200rpm now. There wasn't any real kick in the pants difference. That was back in early 06 though. I will have to call my buddy that has my old truck now and get the version number from it.

The guy that im talking about that has newest version I believe will be at scheids so we will hop on the dyno and test them back to back.

It will possibly smoke more and feel stronger because its bringing the timing curve on quicker. That is about the extent of it. It gets more fuel sooner but ends up being the same on top. At least from my experience when looking for the same answers. NEVER until now spoke to anyone or read anywhere a peak timing value for these pumps/programmers.

I recall 24° being the top end of the spectrum.

Is this the max the pump will do or the max the ECM sends out factory or modified by a programmer?

A while back there was a real smart guy over on TDR that built his own equipment to talk to the cummins ECM and extract the info from it. All the fueling tables, timing tables, etc and could see which parameters changed the values. Then he proceeded to alter his tables and reload them to the ECM to try the changes out. It's been a while ago, but he discussed what the timing values ranged from in a stock application.

EDIT: I found the links to some of his findings...

Happy reading!

That figures. I'm getting errors when I try to open the links.
