How streetable are 4.88's vs 4.10's?

The truck sees 10 - 20 miles daily on highway into small town. Rarely makes long trips. At most 90 - 100 miles for local pulls. I don't mind not going fast but want to try and compete better at pulls (10 - 12 per year).

Can't do the truck as dedicated puller yet so have to keep options open. By my calculations it looks like 65 mph is 2250 rpm's with 33" tires. Truck has a 66/71/16 turbo, pump work, 5 X 0.16's, stock cam, Goerends auto and runs pretty well but need the extra rpm's to make more power.

Any body actually run 4.88's on the highway please let me know if I'm crazy or if it would work. Do you have to change anything with the tranny (shift points, etc.) with the 4.88's? Thanks for help.

one of our super duty pickups has a 5.?? in it from the factory and it goes down the road at 70MPH with an auto fine.

i would get ran over!!
i just try to stay off the highway. it is easier shifting because first and second gear is useless and then you only have two gear changes.

What about when ya run 38"s like mine?

that might make it bearable. but the ripped jeans and sore back from getting in and out of the truck would cost me more in the long run.

It has a small step on it lol. I really can't complain about the factory gears. Speedo corrected by smarty is still off by like 1-2 mph and I can hit 110 fairly easy.
You learn to have this lil bounce to your step as you get in it. I'm only 5'9 ish. Coming out well ya just kinda fall out of it. :hehe:

yup 60/80. i know one of the carriers needs to be swapped also, and one will work for 3.54 or 4.10.

if you are serious, i may be able to get mine torn down since i dont drive it and ship mine out for you to swap, but i cant wait months for the 4.10's to put back in.

yeah, id love to have 3.55s but i dont know how much longer im going to have the donor since im really trying to get the swap done soon! i might be able to work something out for you if you want them when the truck goes to get parted out or sold as a roller.
