I have went through 5 hydro boost in the last six months and just lost another one. I have replaced the gear box & power steering pump too. Is there something else that could be making these things go out that im overlooking?

The problem is - the brake pedal will go to the floor and lock the brakes or the steering wheel will lock while making a turn, just like you have the key in off position.

you need to bleed the system after you install it..
with it running and the front tires off the ground.. use jackstands...
turn wheel lock to lock 3 or 4 times and step on brakes repeatedly...
it worked on my 85 chevy wagon,,, and as always keep checking fluid

I just replaced mine as well as the Vacuum pump I snapped the gear that hooks up to the power steering pump said it could happen if the wheels are out of alignment. Bleed the system really well and should be ok

I have bleed it each time and it works great for about a month, then out of nowhere it starts acting up. Steering starts to get a little stiff, then the brakes get hard and the next thing you know, either the wheel locks while driving or the brake pedal goes to the floor when you start it locking the brakes down. I have changed everything but the return line with no luck.
What could be making these things go out like this?

Ok, with a new hydro boost AGAIN, i ended up with a slightly hard brake pedal and stiff steering. Going to replace the PSP this weekend again.

Should i change the hydro and PSP at the same time? What about the vacuum pump?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I had some crazy PS sytem issuses a few years ago. I went threw multipul steering boxes and one hydro boost and a few pumps. It was very frusterating. I found that I was getting bad boxes, and that was cuaseing my brake booster to stick the brake pedal down, plus the steering felt really bad and ps pumps would get really hot and lines did melt. I got bad boxes from aftermarket and dodge, The second box from dodge worked. I dismantled the last steering box i had warranted and found that the torsion spring in the valveing was twisted farther than it should. hope this helps.

You might try running one of those in-line filters, it almost sounds like you've got debris running through the fluid causing problems. I think the good filters are $25 and the cheap inside the line ones are $7. When you install new components, it wouldn't hurt to leave the return line disconnected and pointed at a bucket. It will only take 3-4 seconds to empty the fill reservoir so shut down and repeat. Buy a full gallon of Power Steering fluid and you should be able to get everything flushed out. Also, it helps to turn the wheels when you're flushing the system so prop the front end on jack stands.

Guy's thanks for the info.

I have tried everything, so far it seems to be working. But i will say, i will not be changing the next PS pump or hydro, it will go to dodge. I have changed them for the last time. I'm sick of it.

THANKS AGAIN!!!
