I need a 400-500 horse street engine......

i know how to do all the stuff, but he is going to have the pump rebuilt and all the stuff done to it before it goes back on because he dosent know diesels as well as most of us, its just he has a 1999 V10 superduty with 170K on it and its a better option than getting another truck or rebuilding the v10, right now with his 3.73 gears and 39.5 tires he is getting about 4-5 mpg on a good day.....

here is what i got so far......and that was without shopping around.....

Head gasket fire rings 20 over 285.00
Head studs 12mm 460.00
4000 GSK/60 LBS valve springs 225.00
Fluidampr 465.00
Injectors 675.00
Afc kit 35.00
High flow delivery valves/socket 314.00
Mack rack plug 13.00
Fuel system 500.00

this was all from Pure Diesel Power's site.......

that is what i was gonna ask

ddp stg 3?

i wouldnt go any bigger than that - esp with him not knowing diesels etc

and a buddy of mine just pointed out that with any plate one could run the afc so tight that the lever never makes contact...i didnt consider that. set it up how ever you want for the guy but if it were me i wouldnt go bigger than a 5x12 or more aggressive than a #10 tuned with a stock or med spring (62/65-13or14) he prolly wont blow up too much stuff like that and end up regretting the swap unsubscribing don

yes they are the DDP 3's, i can step it down to the 75 horse ones instead of the 90's if need be......

i plan on trying to find a good competent place in Washington state to tune the engine for him before he goes tearing around in it and kills something.....

i found a good deal on S300's that are either 62/65/12 for 1000, or 64/65/12 and for 1250, do you think the exducer is somewhat small for this engine im putting together, im also waiting on a response back from the dealer about a 62/71/14, or 64/71/14......

how much towing do you do over 3K RPM?

all depends on how steep the grade is

lol

jk, i have a gear vendors splitter behind a 5 speed so my rpm range is not as large as it used to be when climbing

guess it dont matter then what he uses for a plate, as long as who ever tunes it sets it up right for the application

whos got a wiring schematic for under the hood of one of these things? (2nd gen)

thanks, don

He could save $75 if he got his studs from Greg Hogue...$.02

i got my studs for alot less too, like i said, this is a rough estimate of what i was going to spend, i obviously can get stuff cheaper by shopping around......heck dieseldaddy.com had the fluidampr's forsale at one time for 369 (i think they went up some)......you needed the pin kit and the pickup but that is still an insanely cheap price and the kit and pickup arent that much......i got my Quickspool manifold for 445 shipped which was a decent deal........i have no prefrence from who i buy from when i am buying the same quality parts.......

a 20 over headgasket should help out a little or is the extra thickness even worth it????

im going to assume i should drop the delivery valves back to 191's???

here is what i got after doing some modifying to the list

Head gasket/fire rings/20 over thickness 285.00
Head studs 12mm 460.00
4000 GSK/60 LBS valve springs 225.00
Fluidampr 465.00
Injectors DDP 75's 525.00
Afc kit 35.00
191 delivery valves 250.00
Mack rack plug 13.00
Fuel system 500.00
62/65 charger 1000.00

grand total of 3758.....

if i do some shopping i think i can get it down to about 3400......

I towed 15k with my ddp3's and stock turbo... She would get slightly toasty on the hills, but were managable.. I would not spend that kind of money on DDP's they are a good injector, but I would send some stockers to Smokem and have them made into what ever he recommends for your application.. I made 445hp 899tq with 62/65/13, ddp3's, 100 plate with AFC mods, Hamilton big stick cam, Cool twist intercooler.

Im sure i probably missed it but what is the motor coming out of. Knowing what the motors coming out of will also help. for instance if its coming out of a manual or auto 97-98 truck you wont really need the dvs as the 180s out of the autos and the 215 pump and injectors that are in the manuals flow plenty of fuel with just a plate swap.
With what ever turbo charger your looking at id suggest buying a quick spool manifold whether it be from a place like ats or htt he'll really reap the benifits once hes towing.

i was keeping that as the variable cause we are still looking for an engine, if we can find a 215 or 180 engine, great, but this is a worst case scenario type stuation and we end up with a 160 engine.....

im thinking a camshaft and a manifold since i shaved down the price enough to keep his budget going good.....especially if i can get a 215 engine and not have to use the delivery valves.....with the cam will the pistons need fly cut??

what does Smokem charge to do a set of injectors????

What is wrong with a 160hp engine? I haven't found something wrong with mine yet.

Here is what I would do:

62/65/13 Charger...Call engineered diesel
Corrected spray pattern 370's
Cold air intake
4k gsk (you can limit it to a 3k by using leaving out a certain spring until you get 60lb valve springs)
Timing to around 17 degrees
ARP or A1 headstuds
Fire or o rings if you have the money
AFC mods

Loganstanforth. You dont need flycut pistons for most cams. What ever cam you choose tho make sure u contact the manufacture or who ever sells it to find out whether you need fly cut pistons , different lifters and etc.
