i cracked my 53 a few months back :woohoo: i found one to replace it it has under 60k on it i pulled the pan and valve cover today and i was suprised this thing aint even broke in now what do i do originally i planed on completely building a motor from the ground up i could swap this out as is and run it for awhile but since i have it sitting out. i plan on pulling the head having the valves looked at. put some heaver springs in and studs do i get it o ringed getting ready to throw a 64 on my truck. should i just leave the bottom end alone i was planing on coated pistons but should i go through the trouble of putting new bearings in it an such if i pulled the bottom apart or do i just leave it alone. and where the hell do i get a stand for this heavy thing i tried to put it on a 2000 pound one and it sagged to much for me to be comfortable

You are bolting this from the side of the block instead of the rear of the block? From the side is where I mount em.

Did you get another 53 block???

the back i think i am going to have to build something. and no i did not get another 53 it does not have a casting number on it

I use the 4 bolt holes where the isolator mount goes. One of these days I'm gonna make a sweet stand just for fully dressed Cummins blocks.

Storm block have 6 holes and you must rise engine stand center point from mounting holes approx 10 inch to get the ideal weight balance for rotating.

If you connect engine stand directy to isolator mounting location, then is almost impossible to rotate the engine (been there done that)

So Nick... When are we going to your grandpas to do this??? I can leave home now. (Im outta the dog house.) :hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

i got it up on there sideways the other day here is one picture of it. any ideas on what to check i have never really messed with a cummins internally before

all the other cylinders look fine here is a pic of all of them

so if i pop 6 out and hone it and dont replace the bearings whats my chances of spinning it? should i just replace my rod bearings if i pull them?
and one last question the cam bearings had copper showing is it normal or like every other bearing i have seen time to replace them? im thinking if the cam bearings have copper showing they all do and i will end up replacing them all. think this motor had a few more miles on it than i was told

On an engine you don't know much or anything about I would rebuild it if funds allow. You have it out. This is the optimal time to do it.

scaring like that might need to be bored or have the sleeve replaced. also the piston. hard to tell from the pics.

i would pull all the pistons check everything out, rehone if possible and replace the road bearings.

i got nothing but time to get this done rather do it right the first time i will pull the piston later this week see what i find. they wont catch but if you push real hard with with finger you feel them

i got the piston out things dont look good. dont look like its going to hone out its pretty deep down where the skirt meets the piston the skirt is all chewed up. no sleeves like the big motors have right cant just pop a new sleeve in? the rod bearing had copper showing on the top so looks like all new new bearings. since i have to replace a piston i hear that rv275 pistons are coated. any mods have to be made to run them?

sorry for the bad pictures bad lighting in the shop

you get a sleeve puller and pull the sleeve out instide of boaring it out you just replace the liner its in the bigger motors semi trucks
