I've had pretty good luck with Eagle 1 etching mag wheel cleaner. Usually pick it up at Advanced. Just used it to clean my tool box before I buffed it.

Eagle 1 Etching Mag works good, I use it when I can't find aluminum brightener. But take that Eagle 1 and times the flash off and cleaning affect by three.
