If you had to start over?

Ive been pulling for 3 years and have over 150 hooks on the same transmission. All I have done is change the fluid and swapped converters to try different stall speeds. Im not saying that they wont fail, but most of the time a properly built auto will hold up for a long time. Im running all billet shafts and a billet flexplate.

I just had mine apart last week and had close to 100 hooks on it and 30,000 miles on the street and strip and it was clean as a whistle. THe only reason for tearing it apart was to fix some things I broke when front driveshaft let loose and banged alot of stuff up and for general check up on its internals.

True it is a waste of money. But you can say that pretty much everything is a waste of money except for food clothing and shelter. Also it seems like a lot of people manage to waste a lot more money than others, but still never have a very good runnin truck.

This is true and to the post you referred to its more true. I wish I had that much money to spend on my truck.

Ok if your going to start over heres what i would do, not build a pullin truck, huge waste of money. But if you must, id by a 3rd gen and put a 5speed in it. We are a 2.6 truck and had an auto for two years and hated every minute of it. Now i put 5-speed in it and i love it. They are cheap to build easy to get.

Jeff are you still loving the 5speed over the auto after last weekend at covington? I agree with Josh i think you guys are over fueled alittle. Hope to see you guys tommorow at Edmonton Ky.

The good thing with a auto is knowing when to lock in un-lock the converter, you dont have to stand and look at a track in think do i need to pull 4th low or 2nd high. I'll stick with a auto as i have had both.

jordanjames - I agree with the second paragraph...thats sums it up!

I think an Auto is probably pretty hard to beat at the 2.8 level.

After seeing and working on teddy bear's truck for the past 3 years and never having a tranny problem to speak of, its pretty hard to argue with that. You cant run a clutch for 3 years of straight pulling without rebuilding it at least once a season most likely.

Now, I think stick shift trucks pull well too, and i do like them, but i think an auto is probably more reliable, and usually easier on parts.

I used to think hard about going 5 speed with my truck because thats what i really wanted. Now, I like the automatic better, and Dave Goerend can take care of any shortcomings they have:rockwoot:

I like auto in cr becasue of rpm's that are limited in a cr... if I had a 12v I would go with a stick and just hold 5500 6000 rpm's..lol cr 3500..lol

NV5600 = $2400 - $3200 reman trans
Core $1000-ish
Shipped, what ever 500#'s cost to ship :)

Clutch = $1300-$2000-ish.

Built autos's are $6 - $8K right?

As far as the Nv5600, i'm rather sure 5th gear does not involve any gear on gear contact, just straight though the main shaft and out the door

I know nothing about pulling, but I'd think that's a bit higher then most run in for a gear right? But if you could run 4.88's or something you'd have a trans that will be stronger then an auto in this case correct? :)
