Most 12v injectors are 5 hole tips right? Most 24v inj tips are 7 hole right? So-instead of running 5x18's, how about a set of 8x10's or 10x8's? The jist being more smaller holes to have better atomization with alot of flow.

FWIW, I think someone recently had a set of 12 hole injectors for sale (can't remember the size)...

More smaller holes would seem better than less larger holes (atomization purposes).

I think you mainly see aftermarket 5 holes for 12V's and 7 holes for 24V's is because it is cheaper to just hone out a stock nozzle than it is to buy a new blank and EDM new holes in it...

The duramax guys are playing with this. MDE has a set of 14 hole nozzles for a land speed car, Two banks of holes with two different spray angles. Ill be looking at these for mine as well.

A lot of people don't like multiple hole injectors for a few different reasons. I've run 11 and soon to be 10 holes and really liked them. They were smokey and hot though.

One issue with the smaller holes is the injector tip can become weaker.
The other thing is 5 x.020 is a lot more area than 10 x .010.

Wouldn't more holes in the nozzle weeken the nozzle? Just a question on my part. Further, does the off center placement of the 12v piston bowl have anything to do with the dominance of the 5 hole nozzle on this platform vs the centered bowls of the 24 v and CRs?

Damn, Dan beat me to it!

not sure what they'd do for the older truck but, injectors with more holes for CR's only smoke less with no benefit to hp

I'm sure there is a line somewhere, where the holes get small enough (regardless of the # of them) that the flow is restricted too much and hp suffers...

One other thing to consider is that the smaller the hole, the wider the spray becomes. It's a known and proven phenomenon that camera guys deal with all the time.

Bgbldodge, what did you like about them? How was your mileage? What are/were the specs on them?

Big blue24, are you saying that by the wider spray, that the spray will be outside of the piston bowl? Can this be countered by altering the spray angle of the tip? Would kinda explain why Bgbldodge said his were smokey and hot.

I think there is a happy medium to be had here. If I did my math right, the area of the holes of a 5x.018 inj is .001272267, and the area of a 10x.014 inj is .001539286. Maybe someone who builds injectors can jump in and add some input, but why wouldn't a 10x.014 with a tip designed to target the spray in the piston bowl be a viable option?

They were incredibly smooth. Smoother than the 7x.010's I'm running now. They need a lot of air. My buddy went from 10 holes to my 11 holes and gained 25hp.

Quantity. I don't know the hole size on the 10 or 11 holes but you can see the factory 7 and then the extra 3-4 holes are noticeably larger and farther down the nozzle. They are smokey and hot but run good IMO. I didn't notice any change in mileage going from the 11 hole to the 7 hole I'm running now. There was a slight haze at idle with the 11 holes but I thought it was pretty cool.

I was told that too many holes will limit horsepower because the fuel can’t penetrate the combustion chamber far enough

So, prob smokey and hot because of the extra fuel that was being injected. Similar to any bigger inj right?

I ran the 10 hole injectors & they were still very smokey, but super smooth. I stepped down to the Dragon flies & they don't smoke with no box, hardly noticed a power loss if any at all. Best of all my egts are down 300* & they are more fun to drive. Alot less Birds from other drivers.

whats a ddp 4, 5x14 right? NE or gone from that injector to like a dragon fly of 11 hole injector? opinons?

A lot of people like the ddp's and other higher priced inj.(vs 370's, 435's, ect.) What is different about them? They are still 5 hole(12v) or 7 hole(24v) inj right? The major diff is the edm tip with a good spray angle right?

For a 12v, is a 5 hole tip the best, cause it seems like it not too popular to run something different. Does a 5 hole pattern fit the piston bowl the best? Or are the custom inj just not being designed the way they need to be, to make them a good choice? I guess that considering the money spent on r&d that there isn't really a better tip design?
