Input twisted in converter, ideas?

I twisted off my billet input in my suncoast converter and the remainder of the shaft won't come out. Suncoast wants 650 to reman it and a local shop in Waco "thinks" they can fix it. I might also still be able to tap the piece and slide hammer it out. What would yall do? I want it done right but after fixing the tranny that 650 sure is hard to let go of.

I've got one that is in the same shape, I'm going to replace both.

I have had 2 of them like that. The splines in the converter will be twisted too. So the hub will have to be cut out. You might as well bite the bullet and send it in and get it fixed.

I broke a billet shaft off in a billet converter once! Had a friend go in there with a stick welder and weld a steel rod to the stub and it came right out but the flux off the welding rod contaminated the converter so I still sent it out and cut apart and cleaned. The other option would be to drill a hole in the pilot on the front side of the converter and put something long in there to poke the piece out and then tap the hole and plug it. But...If too much force is applied to the broken stub the converter can be damaged!
