Inside Drag Racing Television-Indy 2009

Sorry, the tone of the posts got me all sorts of cross-ways. Being a full fledged Curmudeon (if you don't know what it means look it up) allows me to be CRANKY. I still stand by my words - the NHRDA is a young organization and Randy has done exceptionally well to get the NHRDA where it is today in just over 5 years. We all need to do whatever we can to help the NHRDA be successful in the long run. A little sacrifice on all of our parts now will pay big rewards in the future.

Totally agree Jim, I was told the way to make a little money drag racing is spend a lot of money. I think that is a paraphrase from something John Force some said when he was still eating pork & beans out of the can. I'm the poster boy for that approach. We're doing a 5000+ mile round trip to hit Fallon, Indy, Muncie and Billings and don't expect anything if we don't win or place. We're doing it to have an opportunity to race the best trucks in the country and see how we stack up, certainly not for the money, thats nice but won't even cover a set of wheels and tires for one of these things. What will be next, asking for appearence money to even show up?

Maybe you should stay home Quarterman, your type of attitude doesn't help and already hurting sport, especially after what happened in Bowling Green

It's a tough deal for everyone

I just got back from a 23 hr drive from southern GA. I was also at TS to get rained out. I will be at OBX race also. I just like to race but it sure is nice to know what you "COULD" win if you did good. I like how NADM pays full payout. It makes a guy like myself (take a chance) want to go in the hope I may get something. With that said I will be in Indy to support NHRDA also. I do think they need to have set payouts without a truck count. Hope to see everyone in a couple of weeks. Jeff

I just got off the phone with Inside Drag Racing Televison. Everyone make sure you brush your teeth and comb your hair they will doing random interviews with competitors throughout the day. :rockwoot:

The event is on June 6th 2009 at Oreilly Raceway Park. The TV show will air at 11.00am July 5th on Inside Drag Racing Television.

Why don't you shut your pie hole. You have missinterprated what I said. I would just like to know what I'm competing for before I make the trip. I don't expect show up money but not real crazy about having to depend on other racers to fill my class to get paid if I place at all. I went to races before there ever was nhrda, dhra, nadm or any other organization in diesel. I have been there when there was hardly nothing to win so don't talk to me about wanting a sport to grow and showing up to events I have paid my dues.

I hope this event is a success and I probably will attend but my opinion still is the same. Nhrda is a young organization so why try to hold an event in such a pricy facility and build a sled pulling track that is extremely expensive. Plus on the same weekend as an event an hour down the road. Doesn't sound like a good bussiness decision for any org in this strugling sport but on with the race.

Junior I started drag racing in 1960, and, "Pie Hole" is something that Jim Rome says and sounds stupid even when he says it. Also "misinterperated" is spelled misinterpreted. I didn't misintepret anything you said. My and Jim's point is and was exactly at it was stated. Diesel drag racing isn't going anywhere unless we support it. Max'd Out had to cancel at Indy because we hurt the truck last week in Nevada and can't get it back together in time to make the trip to Indy, almost 2,200 miles one way for me. We are currently busting our collective butt swapping engines and building a whole new turbo setup to make Billings, MT the weekend after Indy, another little 880 miles for me and Edmonton, AB in August another 1,000. Also Spokane, Woodburn, OR and Medford, OR that are only a few hundred miles. All of this is on my buck, no sponsors except for ourselves and Opie at IE. We're doing this for the love of the sport and to support NHRDA and hopefully see the sport grow.

I appreciate what you have done for diesel drag racing, and would love to see your race car at any event. If the payout is something you have to have then you know something about the sport I don't.

Sir I know about sacrifice and busting my but. I also have worked late in the night away from my family some nights not even going to bed to make a race for peanuts with an untested setup and drive 1000 miles to race. Hell I have fallen a sleep in the staging lanes before waiting to race. In 2005 when I won the prostreet championship in dhra I rebuilt the engine after every race. I appreciate your dedication to this sport but I have always been dedicated to this sport and want more than anything to see it grow. But I still think nhrda's payout structure hurt the sport. If you can't pay but 500.00 dollars for top prize in a class post it up at least I will know what I'm competing for without having to speculate or gamble on other racers showing up. I have never had a sponsor I have always raced out of my pocket I have been given product mainly trans parts but never money. I own two trucks and drive one and a friend drives the other with no sponsors.

Okay, I think we all want the sport to grow, and are worried about anything that sets the sport back.

I haven't paid as many dues as you two have as far as building fast trucks, but I have been racing since 1983, built my own gasser race car (including chassis work), and did travel around 10,000 miles to diesel racing events last year alone.

As far as I know, NHRDA has posted the payouts before every major event. I know of some events where the payouts were decided pretty close to the event date, but I have never known them to renege on a payout once it was posted. Some people gripe about the fact that they mail the payout checks after the event, but at least they tell us that up front.

With the relatively low truck counts they placed for guaranteed purses, maybe they would have been better off to just make it an unconditional purse. However, in this economy I can also see the need to cover their butts (and to also make sure some smart-aleck like me doesn't enter a U-haul in Pro-Stock and end up winning money just by showing up).

Michael Pliska

I would like to say the same for NADM. Their powers that be are the original diesel sanctioning organization members and have been trying to build the diesel sport long before nhrda. I'd like to see both organizations grow but, on the other hand totally agree with Darren on the pay out. It's ridiculous. They're pretty much saying..... if you guys don't show up, we get to keep all the sponsorship money. I don't think that's what sponsors had in mind.

As small as the sport is, there's very few trucks that show up as it is. With nhrda having 50 events throughout the year..... they almost guarantee very few trucks. This in turn guarantees them they'll be pocketing the sponsors money meant for pay outs. If it's being looked at as a way to get more to show up..... I doubt it's working.

NADM has a set payout for each drag race and sled pull. If trucks don't show to try for the purse.... it makes it easier for those who do and too bad for those who don't show.

Gee, if they are putting on 50 events accross the country, where do you think the sponsorship money is going? You just can't keep some people from *****ing!

you guys sound like hollywood. what else are you going to do that weekend? race for the reason you got into this stuff in the first place... because office jobs suck!!!:bang

They also suggested checking your local station to verify time of showing , Inside Drag Racing explained that even though it is suppose to air at 11:30am Nationally, that sometimes different suppliers might have up to ½ hour discrepancy on airing so again check your local listing for programming.

Inside Drag Racing is broadcasted on Fox Sports Net Services

We also are in the talks about having Inside Drag Racing Television having coverage at our West Coast and East Coast finals, we will keep everyone up to date on the progress of both events.

The Inside Drag Racing website lists the air dates for Indy as July 26 & 27. Any idea which one is right?
