Installing Cab Lights

I've got the recon clears and I can't get them to stop leaking. I've got silicone around the base and around the screw holes and they still leak. And the clear is turning yellow on me. This is my 2nd set from them.

Justin, I told ya so. LOL

How long till yours started leaking? Had mine since December and no problems yet.

i have had my recons for over a year and a half and no leaks but they are yellowing bad

Nice avatar cahammer, except it's a bit ironic that it calls somebody stupid when you have a gross grammatical error in it.LOLLOL:nail::nail:

no I have the clear ones I saw the one's in your link and I think that they would look good

I should clarify my statement a little. The only time mine leak is when the truck is sitting still for a period of time in a hard rain. It goes through car washe's and drives through the rain just fine. It just doesn't like sitting in the rain.

How long have you had your clear ones Blue? I have had my clear ones since december with no problems.

I installed them june 23, 2006. Only reason I remember that was because I was fighting one helluva hangover from my 21st b-day party the night before. They have been waxed every time the truck gets waxed.

Which of the recon lights are the good ones to get. There is 3 different ones. 94-98, 99-02 and 03-08.

What do you mean? I'd get the one's that are for your year truck. That's what I did with mine.

If you read the first page of this thread, they are talking about using newer lights since they are lo-profile, etc.

From what I can tell in the pics, the 94-98 are the tall triangle ones. 99-02 are low profile and so are the 03 and up. From what I can figure, the difference between the 99-02 and 03 and up is just were the screws are.

I'll probably just order the 99-02 ones. I can't imagine anything changed from 98 other than the light design... I hope.

The difference between the late 2nd gens and 3rd gens is the curvature of the roof is different between the two and the screw holes are different between them. I ordered the ones for an 01 and got the low profile 2nd gen style.

10-4.

I ordered the lo-pro 2nd gen ones. Didn't think $65 was too bad, but then they throw on like $15 of shipping. :kick:

Ya. It's like summit's free shipping thing. Shipping might be free but they rape you on handling.

Well FedEx came by but I was put on day shift so I wasn't home. Course the bastards shipped it with "signature required"... what the hell, it's a $65 set of lights, why do I need to sign!

When you guys installed them, did you remove the headliner or just pull the A and B pillar trim to drop it down some?

Removed the A pillar on both sides, the overhead console and pulled the head liner down. Just be gentle to not break the head liner.

Lights came today.

Are the light kits supposed to have wiring to tie into the truck?

Way I understood it, it would include everything I needed to hook them up. All I got was the light covers/base and a LED light with a pigtail. Is that right?

Yep that is correct, you will have to make your own harness. The recon set is designed for those who already have cab lights.
