I've have the best luck in the world, hands down :bang . 5th gear went out on me the other day driving down the road. No noises or anything grinding, just no 5th gear. Figured it was the 5th gear nut, tore it apart today and the 5th gear nut was still on there snug as can be. Started looking around and found the inner teeth on this gear completely stripped. I looked on quad 4x4 and found that it is called the 5th gear clutch. Does anyone know where to find this part? Quad 4x4 wants $330 dagon dollars and that's just rediculous, any help is greatly appreciated.

i broke that 2 times an i bought that piece at standard trans in Ft.worth for 28.00 i believe its the 5th countershaft gear.

Enterprise engine has a bunch of nv4500 parts maybe some used ones too

That is a pretty common failure you have there, next to the 5th gear nut...

Is the one at quad 4x4 billet ? or made of better material? Seems pricy

i dont believe it's the countershaft. on quad 4x4 there is a picture of this same gear and it says 5th gear clutch right underneath of it. http://quad4x4.com/NV4500%20Parts.htm Here is a link to the page i found it on, about 3/4 of the way down the page under synchronizer parts.

its also called overdrive or 5th gear clutch ring.

that is not THAT common of a failure, but happens, also not a $28 part, most ive seen are in the $280-300 range

the countershaft is in the 280-300 range, that synchro ring isnt that much..

here are a couple of better pictures of the part i pulled off of my truck that i need to replace. the light may help to better determine what it is, but from what i have researched so far, i dont believe it's the synchronizer or the countershaft, i could be wrong but from the pictures ive seen on the interenet it is called the 5th gear clutch cone or clutch ring.

ok thanks rollin coal i appreciate it. on that website it's showing that part as $44.74 which would be awesome, but i dont think i can wait for them to ship it to me, so im going to try and find one locally, i think the dodge dealership parts department is open tomorrow.

I doubt the dealer will have it, Prolly have to find a tranny shop. sorry if i dont got the name right, but I've changed that piece out twice. After that i gotta new tranny.

when i drained the gear oil out of the tranny it looked perfect and i was going to reuse it, but now that this gear is stripped im thinking it might be best to put brand new gear oil back in. and i just worrying to much about it or am i on track with going back in with all new gear oil? the expensive 75/85 synthetic of course:bang

okay here is another picture, but with the gear installed, the arrow is pointing to the part i need to replace that i pictured above. just wanting to make sure i ask for and get the right part, and i need to know FOR SURE what it's called

i would buy new process parts on something like that, you may end up back in the same boat sooner than later with chinesium parts.

so does that still appear to be the 5th gear clutch ring to you now that you can see where it was positioned on the tranny? im going to try my best to by the best quality part i can but i also need to get it fixed as soon as possible and as cheap as possible. i just unexpectedly lost my job last saturday so this whole situation really sucks. but oh well, thats life

yes, i just looked it up in one of my manuals, and it is called a 5th gear clutch...

well i have the place a good hooke up on pats in ok. city ok it called blumenthal trans.
the number is 1 800 262 9557 and ask for montey he is a great guy to work with they are the one who bought the pattens for the nv4500 and nv600 parts that are all made in house and us made so yes the parts are made in the usa so i hope you give them a call they will blow anyone out of the water and pricing too send me a pm and let me know how they treat you

O/D clutch gear

I have broke that gear many of times.... the last one i broke i was racing a WRX on the interstate and lost it.When the boost came on in 5th gear it just went boom!! LOL

I about had enough and had it cryoed...
Its been fine in my truck and also a customers truck that had the same problem.

hmmmm, now theres a thought. i'd rather not have to worry about this again. About how much would it be to get it cryoed? And who would be able to do it, a machine shop?

found one laying in the corner if quad is wanting

QU10031 5th Gear Clutch, All 1992-up $329.98
