Guys
I have been pondering about stepping up to a 3.0 or SS class with my 2wd.
What will I have to do to my Engine to make sure she will hold together and perform well? What parts would be needed? I figure, steel pistons, billet cam, A good set of rods, and studs all the way around.
I am planning on having a block line bored and cam bushings installed, plus a bottom end girdle.
Can yall guide me in a direction as far as what parts to focus on and what parts I can get by with?
Im planning on turning this thing anywhere from 5 to 6 grand.
I am still trying to decide if I want to go unlimited single or find something to twin with my S465? And ideas here? My head has had some porting done to it but I may opt to cut the intake off and do some more.
Also keep in mind that im on a budget and cant really afford the best of everything, but I dont want to cut corners either. Yall see anything I have missed or can improve upon?
Any and all help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Lynn

sounds like you got it covered, just add in a good HIGH pressure water system, something thats gonna keep the motor cool, maybe around 1300* or so. i am pretty sure thats what the couple 3.0 guys i've talked to said they run at with water on them.

Gona want to get the bottom end balanced and you wont need water if you have enough fuel and your gona want a good set of pistons like Aries or a coated mahle and a good size injector say 5x.022+. Mine runs the best when my exh. temps are around 1650*

Thanks guys.
What rods are some of you guys using? Would shot peened or treated stock rods last or am i just on borrowed time?

Lynn

I say billet cam for sure. I think youd be fine with stock VP rods, and instead of using water, go a little heavy on fuel.

Well whats yalls opinion on going with twins over a big single? What could I pair with the S465 that will work? I have found a good deal on a s475 to run as a single or would yall suggest something different? Im all ears.

Lynn

I think youve bout got it covered on what you need for another motor. If it were me I'd keep the single but that jus me and its your truck.

On my 3.0 i run stock rods that have been heat treated and shot peened. Deffinetly use some good coated piston like said above. Get a good billet cam after the block have been worked over. It is up to you, i filled my block, but i suppose you could get away without. A good 13mm pump with rsv style gov. I dont use water either. If you stay single charger which i likw better, with the proper tuning you will be able to mannage your temps pretty easy. Might want to inveast in a data aquisition system. They are sweet and very helpful.

I got a turbo upstairs in the garage you could use you might have to get a big hammer out to make it fit.

I say no water injection. Water/Air Intercooler thats good size would be better. Big injectors like Jeremy said. And I say don't fill the block and run water. Don't cut yourself short on your pump. I would spend the money needed on a good pump and cut something else out if need be. I would probably stay a big single. Some places don't allow the twins. That will help to ensure your pulling against someone rather than on your own. I know around here there aren't near enough twins trucks to get them a class at local pulls.

I thought your method is just to not pull it except the last two pulls of the year and say that you haven't got parts in thats why you aren't pulling?:hehe:

That was at the start of the year dummy. Mid season changes caused me to wait for a T6 flange. Don't start on me buddy. My truck last more than 2 hooks remember... Shall I explain?:stab:

How many times did you hook this year? How many did you travel to? I know you made it to KY. How did that go? I already know how the Indy pull went on that vp44:kick: When you gonna make it back. I want to hit a couple more pulls up this year.

Just as a reference, What companeys make after market rods & pistons ? And also what places are good to send a set of stockers to to get treated & shot peened?

Lynn

yea id say make sure your bottom end is balanced, as far as rods iv been runnin stockers but like to find some where to get em treated and peened, ill post if i find somewhere
