Keeps chewing up retainers/thrust

Well got in contact with zach...pretty much confirmed that it was a gear installation error. Ordered a 188/220 and will be installing it on Thursday/Friday.

Pulled the subject one tonight...after 70,000 miles, lobes looked great and tappets were great. All in all glad no damage was done, and I'm excited to get the new bigger cam in and go pulling this weekend.

Awesome customer service, reason why I will always use Zach and continue to recommend him!!!

And yes, the gear was not fully seated!!!

Good call guys!!

Thanks.

No, all the tappets looked great.

Eventhough it all looks good, I'm taking Zachs advise and putting fresh everything in.

Taking all variables out of the equation.

Rotella...15w-40 in spring/summer/fall and Rotella 5w-40 in the winter.

I always used Red-Line Break-In Additive in EVERY oil change. Intervals were 5,000mi

This cam saw 95% daily driving, but saw drag strips, dyno events, and 4500rpm sled pulls.

Set at .009/.015

Hate to change it out because it has been SO good to me...but I'm confident that the new 188/220 that's going in will surpass this one by leaps and bounds.

Yeap, looked like mine. I had no idea what the tapping noise was that was so random until I pulled the cam, then it was "Motherpusbucket"!!!!

Lol..yeah. Glad I pulled it, eventhough the cam was still in good condition, nothing feels better than going back with new, better parts.

Quick question guys...

What did you guys set lash at on the 188/220??

I forgot to ask Zach and they are closed and I may pull a long night and get it running...but lash settings would be most helpful.

I ran my 181/210 at .009/.015

I am running my 188/208 at .010/.015. He recommends .010/.020 for most of his cams. Set it to his specs on the cam card, you can always go back and tighten them up if needed.
