4x4Dually is right on this. When you hook up a trailer the blinker would start to blink really fast. Reason being is your hooking up a resistive load in parallel which increases the amperage on the circuit(also through the flasher) more current makes more heat, which causes the bimetal(similar to what is used in the older thermostats) to heat faster. When it heats, the metals(bi means two)expand at a different rate causing the contact to warp.
