OK, What's is the best/cost effective steering upgrade now-a-days?

I've got a Borgeson Delphi steering gear, Borgeson steering shaft, ThurenFab tracbar, "old" 1-ton steering..TREs etc, Carli control arms, and recently replaced 2 bad ball joints with XRF ball joints. Everything else is fine, but I believe my Tie Rod Ends are what's causing my wonder. SO with that said what seems to be the fix for steering components? I've heard the 4th Gen steering is the way to go, but being that my truck is 99 I will have to ream out the knuckle? I belive the 00-01 trucks just bolt in a go..

Any one have any other fixes or know about putting new style steering on a 99?

So far, the biggest difference on mine was from the steering box brace.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get one of those for a few years now..... I've got to find one to fit my Delphi box. The steering shaft isn't in the same location as a factory box.

I wish I could find some one to fab up some steering like below, but I just cant' see me paying $600. Maybe $450 if I knew it were going to be a legit fix for these trucks.

I put the 98-99 one ton t-style set up on mine and it helped a ton. I still have some other issues, but that took care of most of my problems.

Your '99 should already have T style steering. My fishing pard's does. I put a steering brace on mine and did absolutely nothing for steering. Mine was not terrible except when the I first got it with a shot track bar. I have a Lukes Link in the OEM track bar and that helped a lot but still never had really confident one handed steering. I also installed the '98-'99 T-style steering and had the front alignment checked. Still not really good steering like I wanted, too much see-sawing the wheel.

I recently replaced my Vacuum pump seal and pulled the radiator to clean the core. I took that opportunity to adjust the steering box per the FSM. I also took time to check the LL adjustment to confirm it was good and tight. While doing that I realized the bar had in excess of 100,000 miles on it and the bushed end was likely loose. I replaced it with a poly one.

About the same time I replaced my tires with Nitto Dura Grapplers, 285/75x17 load range E tires on 3rd Gen alloys. It now drives very well and I have virtually no complaint.

I still have original wheel bearings and ball joints @ 180,000 miles. What finally made it drive good was the tires, poly bushing on the track bar and the steering box adjustment. I had load range D tires with really wimpy sidewalls and am quite sure that was no help whatsoever. The steering box needed quite a bit of tightening on both adjustments and you can bet the track bar bushing had to be loose with as many miles as there are on it. The change was dramatic and immediate.

Mine better be top notch with everything im doing.

New Borgensen HO steering pump, lines, steering box, and shaft. Thuren track bar and heavy duty steering kit. New poly control arms, lowered with gasser springs and adjustable shocks. Also going to try and make a steering brace work with the Borgensen steering box.

Ive got about 2 grand in just the steering, but I want to go fast.

Never had issues with mine, but the tallest I ran was 37's. All I added was the brace, and it was like magic, but I didn't need it. It was more of a convenience.

Who's heavy duty steering?

The upgraded steering from mopar seems to be a pretty good deal if it works. From what I read it is a bolt on for 01-02 trucks for sure and I guess we will see what comes back on the older trucks.

mopar part number 52122362AF
Found it on factorymoparparts.com for $241.50

I think he got it from Thuren fab...
Thuren Fabrication- Crossover steering kits
It's pricey. 4th gen steering was only $270 to my door.

On edit ^^^^^ that is where I got my kit from. I will see how well it works in a few weeks. I'm still waiting on a few more parts to arrive.

I run the 98-99 heavy duty steering on my 01. i have pounded dirt roads for over a year, done glamis, ocotillo wells, it holds fine. the only thing is you need the 01 end link. which will fit. if want napa numbers i can find them @ my shop and its all lifetime warrenty!

This is what I want to put on my 01. Is anything else needed to convert over to this?

the only thing i know of is possibly hitting factory aluminum wheels. i put the 09' on my truck and it was a direct bolt on. i have after maket wheels that stick out a little. new lock nuts is a good idea.

Every thread I have read said it was a complete bolt on swap.

I've read that it will fit no problem, but then I've seen others say that the knuckles need to be reamed.

However... A guy just installed this kit on his 1999 over on.. another forum and he said it was a direct bolt in.

Factory wheels hit. The guy I mentioned above has to change wheels. Not sure of the full details, but I will let you know.
