Lift pump question

I have a 94 12v, and I believe my lift pump has puked again. Last night on the way home i wasn't paying attention to fuel level(fuel gauge won't go below half just gotta watch mileage) and it ran out of fuel. I put fuel in it and tried to prime it, but it started puking fuel out of the primer button area. I am gonna replace it today because it is warranteed, but I want to add a Holley type pump inline to stop this problem.

The question I have is can I keep my factory lift pump in working order and just feed a Holley pump(on a toggle) into the front of the p-pump? Or is it a better idea to just bypass the mechanical pump altogether?

Does the truck running out of fuel have anything to do with the failure of the lift pump?

Where did you get the lift pump from?

I would stick with a genuine unit.

I believe it was from Autozone, it has a one year warranty so I am gonna replace it for now, and hope that might have been a fluke POS.

If you are dead set on using a holley lift pump, use it to feed the factory lift pump. There are better pumps out there than a Holley, But it will work. I used one years ago and it worked good for what i was doing. Untill something came along that was better. (FASS). I would use a Holley Black.

Pump

I have used a Holley blue pump to force feed the lift pump for the last 3 years.
Have it plugged into the lighter and unplug if I do not need.

I went through several holley blue's on my 99'. Most of them made it between 10-15k miles before they failed because the fuel would push past the seal on the pump shaft and contaminate the electric motor with diesel fuel.

The methanol-rated holley black pump seems to last longer on the seals. I have a holley black knock-off in my race truck but it only runs when I want maximum power so it probably only has 10 hrs of run time.
