im looking for a used smarty. if anybody has one they want to get rid of pm me.

how much hp does the smarty give ya? i kow its 170 on the CR trucks but i cant find anywhere that says on the vp-44's

From your sig it looks like you have some sort of custom ecm tuning now. The smarty would replace your custom tune with another so it may or may not add power to your setup.

I think "getblown5.9" mentioned wanting to get rid of his. I see Bob is viewing maybe he will chime in on the power but I thought level 9 on the S-02a was 140hp

I don't think you can gain more than 65 HP unless you tap the wire. This is based on stock injectors.

a stock truck might see 65hp

my truck picks up a whopping 17-20hp with it

Smarty for us VP guys only gives us up to 65hp. I think I picked up 10hp when I had one.

then why would anybody pay 600 bucks for one if your not getting all the 65hp it has. how meny other mods do you have to have to get the 65 hp out of it. sounds like it an over priced scanner.

It varies wildly from truck to truck. I don't think I know anybody who's gotten the actual 65hp out of it. It really does make driving the truck a lot more fun but then again, so does my adrenaline.

I didn't mean to put down the smarty but it seams like a lot of money and not get at lest the 65hp it say you get. i never driven with one so i cant talk smack about how they perform. just getting the 02 from people that have used them.

I wouldnt say that the number I quoted is dyno proven on my end, but it was advertised that way to me. and now it looks to be even more powerful.

Now before the hating starts, keep in mind I sold mine. I have made my feelings clear about the product. I am not here to sell him one, he wants one, thats cool. Everyone has their own experiences and right to try what they want. Some people love them, so my stand is just trying to help someone find one.

That's the first time I've ever seen one advertised at 30hp. And the only smarty that makes 170hp is the one for the 04.5+ trucks.

I under stand what your saying, no hating or cheer leading going on, i used to want one until the drama i had with Quad and that put me off from any electronics's to add on. i have a VA that's giving me no problems that's why its still on till it dies, then it will go like the rest.

im not a big fan of the quad........verry rough power on the 3000 tunes and it dont fuel low enough on the 1 and 2000 tunes so thats out of the question :bang

im running 125 injectors........i checked with the guy that i had do my ecm and he said that it will still work with a smarty.

so your saying that the smarty only adds 30hp? i find that hard to belive. ive drove a stock 01 with a smarty and by the seat of the pants dyno it felt like a quite a bit. im not doubting you just find it hard to belive.......thanks for the info though

i sold my tst......but will the smarty stack with my power puck? i know it will with edge ez.......and what kinda power would that make? the reason i sold the tst is because it would almost "burp" in the middle of the rmp range.....anybody that has ever ran one knows what im talking about...i haul cattle a lot and i want the power but not the dang surging and purping. i want something that is smooth that fuel and pull hard below 2000rmp's

We have dynoed a lot of smarty equiped trucks.

Depending on the truck and it's combination of parts, the VP smarty usually makes a 50-70hp improvement in my experiance, but it is not at peak numbers. They do have a strong bottom end, and the hp rating i assume is supposed to apply to the greatest improvement, not to how much peak power you will get from it.

I believe all non-wire tap boxes and programers are rated that way. An edge ez for example does not add 65hp to peak numbers from what i've seen, but it will add that much at a certain rpm.

In general the non wire tap boxes are not that strong on the top end, that's why most guys seem to get 10-30hp out of them when comparing peak numbers.

They do help the power a lot down in the "normal" operating rpm range.

$.02

With your bad luck I'm surprised you didn't lose 65hp. I hope you get that thing figured out soon. I'm getting tired of feeling sorry for you. LOL:Cheer:

see thats what im looking for is power in the lower range, i dont sled pull or drag race. its a farm truck, unless im just screwin around or runnin 80mph it never sees over 2300 rpm's its hooked to a trailer more often than not and i hated the tst when towing, and from what ive seen on my buddys 02 the adrenaline is about the same way more of a "competition" box

so can i stack the smarty with the power puck or would it be a waste of time? i can get 175 out of the puck around here

I have my smarty for sale still, only thing left I have from my 12v conversion. And As Chris Stated their usually dyno numbers arn't 65hp more peak hp but usually make about that much more through out the lower rpm range so you peak just a little more than with out it but your power curve is alot higher throughout the RPM band than stock.

$490 and is yours.

I just got one in on a trade and it makes a big difference on the low end--now I have to tell you I've been driving around close to stock for sometime and I do recall when I first installed the EDGE EZ box about 8yrs ago and how impressed I was with it---to me this fuels harder, but again 8yrs can dull the memory and the truck is slightly set up different now than then----the great thing about the smarty is that you can set it to different settings and that you can return your ECM back to stock just in case you needed to for smog crap or dealer stuff, but this is mostly warranty work concerns and I'd think that there's no more trucks that fall into warranty, unless the '02's still have some left----all in all for what it does I thinks it's a very good product and 'ell I didn't even want it to begin with---I will most likely sell it, but we shall see----all in all for what it can do I think it's well worth it, especially if you have to smog your truck---easy to change back to stock and 1/2 stock power so you don't smoke---great feature---also the low end is very good for mildly bombed trucks-----chris

The 2000, 3000, and 4k tunes are smooth on my truck. I much prefer the bottom end of the quad over the smarty. It's much smoother and linear and much easier to control the smoke with. The puck and smarty would be a waste. It would be like stacking an ez and smarty. Not worth it.
