I have a VW block im putting together and my machine shop must have knocked out an oil galley plug when doing the work on it. I cant find anywhere to pick it up in short notice (or even find one at all) so I was just going to make one myself on the lathe.

I was thinking just turn something out similar to a freeze plug and put a slight taper on it. The hole is .544" so I was thinking turn something out a couple thou bigger but not sure how much bigger.

Was going to use steel also but would aluminum be better?

Looks like im going to do it reguardless just was wondering if anyone had some insight on it that could help me out.

use steel or brass and make it about .005 bigger and put some #2 permatec on it.
