For anyone out there that knows more than me which is probably most. :hehe: I am rebuilding a 2.6 12v motor for a friend who is planning to do a little racing next year. Tonite we put the main bearings and crank in. I was wondering if anyone knew why the oil passages in the block and the piston cooling nozzels dont exactly line up with the holes in the bearings. I know this is normal I even compared the old bearings to the new ones just to make sure my eyes weren't crossed. Is it to increase or decrease oil velocity to the bottom of the piston, maybe to keep a dry spot from occuring or ? I know old man cummins is smarter than me so there is surley a reason. Thoughts or facts?

Yeah its weird, almost like wrong but apparently it works. We had the block machined and all but after 215000 miles and several sled pulls the mains were directly in the middle of cummins spec as were rods. The cylinders had less than .005 runout too.

It acts as a restriction to hold a certain pressure in the bearing
