Making a 6000 mile trip soon, looking to improve EGT's and/or mileage

How are you getting 23 mpg out of a 7.3 F350? Sounds awfully high?

I agree, The best I could ever pull out of my 96 F350 was like 20 mpg and that was on pizza cutters and unloaded on the highway for the entire trip

It's a SRW straight piped, cold air, and economy tune. It got 16.5-18 with a jam packed two axle uhaul across the nation. With just the bed full it got 21-23 from ME to NM. My girl drives it most of the time, all highway, with cruise control she doens't give it any extra fuel. The mileage would suck if I drove it. She runs 65mph religiously. She's very exact with her calculations, so much that she actually reported a miscalibrated pump in TN and got refunded money from the local auditor or whatever. I know because she called me at 0345am to complain about it.

I wouldn't mind taking it if I didn't have to buy and install the gooseneck and fix the new vibration it obtained as of late. That, and the shame of pulling my drag car with a Ford

She's obviously wanting to take the Ford while I'm trying to justify taking the big, smokey, wasteful, loud Dodge.

I never see only highway in the Dodge it's always mixed with city and my "competitive" driving, so I can never get an accurate account of the highway mileage. Further more I'm not sure if my calculations for converting the odometer change for 35" tires compared to the stock 31's. Does 12.5% more sound right?

That's really impressive. I had a lowered, no options, '02 F250 reg cab XL 2wd, and I couldn't even come close to that! Even with the addition of some 175 single shots. Sounds like you got a keeper.

Ya, not sure how but we've checked the mileage a few times, can't beat it.

PS we are taking the Cummins since the rear in her F350 has pieces of bearing cage floating around in it. She got into the habit of doing power brake burnouts last year... :hehe:

Does your GF have a twin? :D

I got 18 doing 70 on the highway yesterday and thats trying to do it. I had about 700lbs in the bed and it was a rolling highway (jersey turnpike). I have gotten a best of 22 but that was with my stock turbo. All highway mileage is calculated by GPS since actual tire size throw everything off, they are never the size thats written on the side wall.

No she doesn't have twin, but she did help me swap the transfer case we smoked during the trip [must of had a leak I didn't notice and chewed up a range fork]. Swapped to a 241 DHD while we were at it.

Ended up getting a best of 17-18 unloaded, not bad for stock timing and a zero plate. Ran between 67-73mph [around 1800rpm with 35's] Crazy thing was we got worse mileage pulling fuel out, meh, FF starwheel and 0 plate with the smoke screw 1/2 way in got the best mileage, not sure why...

Now that I'm back I'll be messing with the timing. Next is a cam and timing case.
