My project truck buildup, '96 auto to NV5600 and frame off resto!

Thanks alot for the input, CollegeCummins. I'm just making this a shortbed, the longbed wouldn't really go with the styling of the rest of the build lol, don't want it to look like a farm truck. I have another truck for that. Thanks for the interest!

Well, got the motor pulled apart last night. I'm ordering a topend gasket kit from BBD to get it back together. I'm getting my head o-ringed too, and finishing the porting and polishing myself. I need some opinions on whether or not to use a thicker gasket... Some say always use thicker, some say stock with orings. Anyways here are some pics. Anybody got any recommendations on what to have done to the head while it's at the machine shop ?
Also, I remember seeing some HD head bolts, not studs. I'd like to get some until I can get my studs in, but can't find them now. Anybody remember where to get em?

Valvetrain removed.

Head coming off.

Made this to hold my pushrods and rocker assemblies in exact order they came out.

Here's the headless cummins. Cylinders and pistons look perfect, all crosshatches are perfect, no gouged cylinders.

Also, got my roll pan in the other day. UPS dented it, they suck.

Picked up my clutch that Kentucky Clutch and Performance built me. 3800 psi ceramic single disc.

Give me opinions, suggestions etc!

Thanks man. I'm planning on throwing on a s475 with this VGT once I get this thing on the road, hoping for around 550-600 horse. I was thinking .010 over, just to confirm it clamps good without having the block decked and all that. That's the bolts too, thanks alot man!

I did some more work on the head the other night, finished up all the porting. Also got the new tail lights, getting closer and closer. :party018:

The little lady jumped right in and helped out again.

More pics of the chick would help this build thread alot! Hell, get her to work in a bikini!

Lol of I will put my perv side back in its box, looks like your doing a good job there. I wouldnt mind doing a stock resto on a first gen one day

I went with the thicker gasket with a lot less mods than you are doing. Thinking it might be more dependable time wise with the higher timing, etc.
But then, I know less than most.
Good luck, looking good.

I'll try to talk 'er into it! :lolly: I was thinking about doing a stock-looking resto on this one when I got it.. but then I was like, Who am I kidding? You know how that goes. Now not one aspect of the truck is stock. :hehe:

Thanks man. I went with a standard gasket, we'll have to see how she holds. If not I'll just put in a different one.

Thanks man. And howdy, neighbor! :hehe: Nice looking first genner ya got there.

Might want to wait till the die grinding is done. I hate getting covered in the metal slivers, and thats wearing jeans and a hoodie. A bikini would be down right uncomfortable.
