Need a TPS!

Just don't make sense. Maybe the engineer in me likes to over-analyze everything....but why punch Jim in the mouth when Joe did it?

My brother is having the same kinda issues with his '02. He just had the VP replaced about 10K miles ago if that...and when he's cruising down the interstate the hills absolutely KILL his truck. It's not so bad when it's just the truck, but pulling a tiny trailer he'll get dead pedal like crazy and he'll lose 15-20mph on the hills.

It acts like it comes and goes....he can be fighting with it going over the hills and 5 miles later it will blast up the hill no problem and then the next hill have dead pedal again. It's freakin weird!

Me and Tyler were talking about this awhile ago and we're thinking the injector pump was faulty from the get go...

If ur throwing white smoke and havins a dead petal. ur computer on ur vp is going bad . i know because thats what mine did

EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE!!!! Its like becuase your truck is pointed uphill BAM dead pedal. Crazy thing is I always get it on the ramp to enter south bypass arond Birmingham, everytime BAM! Its almost like the fact your truck is going uphill kills it because it will come back alive downhill cures it.

I had to pull off on the shoulder and put flashers on acouple of times and i aint shy about going slow on the interstate either.

I'm dreading getting it worked on because I know its gona be a part replacement experiment to figure out and cost mass money. I need to get it fixed though. I have the money now but there doesnt seem to be a consensus on what the cause is

My problem is the APPS. When I get to cruisin' speeds and push my pedal down until I get into the 18-20% throttle range, the %age on the readout starts to fluctuate when I hold the pedal as steady as I can. I can bump the APPS % up to 22 or down to 16 and it clears up and runs smooth. I have a dead spot. It doesn't fluctuate when the truck isn't runnin'. Just when the motor is vibrating it all to hell.

He's had to throw the flashers on too because the truck just kept losing speed. He hit this one hill at over 90mph and by the time he hit the top ( this hill was long but didn't have much grade to it at all ) he was down to 50mph!:bang AND this is with an Edge COMP on level 3!

My '01 with 38"s pulling my Jeep could have done that hill at 85mph NO PROBLEM!

My truck did what you speak of a few months ago when the ECM crapped. $.02

Did your truck have any white smoke on start ups, or was it just the dead pedal crap?? It's been so long since I read your thread that I don't remember.

I didn't have any trouble when I started it at work, pulled out of the parking lot. After the first stop light out here, it started losing pedal when I'd push on it. Hills got harder and harder to climb. Guages lit up and before I could get to the eighth mile, it was DONE.

His seems to act fine around town....it's just the damn hills that kill his. No check engine lights or anything when it happens....just loses all nuts.

Since I started this thread awhile back, just wanted to let averyone know it ended up being my ECM, not the APPS/TPS....

a guy (timbo) over on the TDR has a replacement one that he makes--$150 or so---

Timbom1976@aol.com is his email address

contact him and he will get you set up.....chris

WOW.,.....thats rare....Keith get you an ECM?

Thats a long story.....Keith is involved, but did a great job dealing with what he had to put up with. I'll leave it at that. I can say this is my THIRD "new" ECM this year from Cummins though.....

That would rasie the question then, what is knocking them out???? You dont address that issue....you are going to make it 4.......

I'm not convinced its my truck...the first one was bad right out of the box. If this one goes bad, then I guess I'll have to figure out why.

when ordering a new tps why do you need to have the vin nu off the motor in hand i went to dodge and asked and they told me that the after markt ones are not calbrated to dodge specs is that true cause its 200 bucks cheaper than from dodge

It's true that the unit from Timbo is not calibrated when you receive it, but with a simple voltmeter you can do the adjustment yourself in about 10mn. The unit works great and instructions are provided. I highly recommend this unit.
