Well i just got my truck towed home and i am needing alot of help. I went to the bank this morning and while sitting at the drive through my high idle kicked on and my truck started shaking and couldn't keep up with the revs. my high idle is set at 1200 rpm's but my truck couldn't keep it at the level and was loping pretty bad so i disabled the high idle. It kept loping sitting still so i tried to rev it up just a little bit and saw white smoke come from the exhuast pipe and the truck just couldn't keep up with the revs i was giving it. I immediately shut it off because i didn't want to do any more damage than what is already done i.e. burn a piston or something catastrophic. i really need this truck back up and running so if you all can give me some advice i would greatlly appreciate it. if it helps i have all the mods in my sig, and just last week added STP diesel treatment to help from having gelled fuel. I also let it warm up about ten minutes before i went to the bank since i didnt plug it in last night...help me out

i dont have a scanner to check for codes and my truck being a 99 i cant do the key cycle for codes. I feel as though it is a fuel related issue. my adrenaline was in warmup mode, thus in pl00, which is stock form. any other thoughts??

Unplug the ADR and see what happens. Also do you have a fuel pressure guage? Fuel may still be gelling, it can still happen even with additive, especially if your filter is getting clogged.

what tune were you running?
had this happen on an old comp2 tune
warm up mode would shut off the lp when it hit over 1100

i too have had an experience with the comp2 tune shutting my truck down but this is completely different. i am starting to think that somehow my fuel is gelled or i got water in it somehow. and if that is the case, i dont know where to go from there. drain the tank and refill? replace fuel, ip, injectors? im just kind of lost as to what to do now. and on top of all of this it's 15* here and i have no where to work inside or anything..

Dump a bottle of Diesel 911 in it. Then fire it up and let it run. If gelled fuel is the issue, that may clean it out.

ok sounds good man. i am going to try and run to walmart and see if they have some diesel 911. im hoping that will clear it up. if it does should i still remove all fuel in the truck and replace it with new, or just ride out this tank with the old fuel and diesel 911. i put STP diesel treatment in just last week after i got a water in fuel light on and everything seemed to be fine. thanks for the help guys. i am going to try the diesel 911 and post a video tomorrow to maybe get some more in depth input

hey thanks. yeah i meant to put that. here is a little more detail: last week i went doing doughnuts in the snow and ice for like 6 hours straight. on my way home i got a water in fuel light, so when i got home, i drained the fuel filter housing and bumped the starter so the fass would fill the filter back up. it was fine and the light went off, until today it started this crazy mess, but today the water in fuel light didnt come on. do you think it is related to the light?

also thinking it might be but i would also try a different tune in the adr

Unplug the ADR, fire it up, while the truck is running hit the drain for the fuel filter and see what you get out of the canister. The one good thing about water in fuel is you can pump it out of the tank.

Also, when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

If you had to think about it, you need one.

i just replaced the fuel filter maybe 4 weeks ago. I don't do alot of driving, maybe 10-12k miles a year so this vp has no more than i'd say 14k miles on it and it's had a fass on it from day one. i drained the filter housing yesterday and started the truck up. it ran fine for a minute or two and then started doing the loping/erratic idle thing again. i tried reving it up and it was very slow to react to the rev's i was giving it. i am going to dump some diesel 911 through it tonight when i get out of class and let it run for a good amount of time. I'm just worried that if the fuel is gelled or there is water in it, that letting it run for too long will grenade the injection pump. anybody have any ideas on what to do? also can i just unplug the adrenaline from the main harness and start the truck of do i need to take it completely off of the truck?

Just unplug it, when these trucks start to act up removing anything in the engine management controls that is not stock can help in troubleshooting.

sounds good i will unplug it when i get home and run some diesel 911 through it. thanks for all your help. i am going to post a video up tonight of what it is doing to try and diagnose it better, if the above solutions do not fix it. once again, thanks a million
