I have a 1996 2500 12v with a 5 speed it has 191DV's, fuel plate, 60lb valve springs, stage 3 DDP injectors, air horn, Pro 52 holeset charger, southbend dual disk clutch, 3.55 locked rear w/ open front end, Cal tracks bars, and 5 inch exhaust. The motor has 170k on it and has no issues. The only thing we have done to the top end is put valve cover gaskets on it. So my question is what to do next motor wise and turbo wise to make it a competive 2.6 class truck.

where do you live? You might think that's an odd question but what you need to do to be a competitive 2.6 trucks from area to area can vary quite a bit. Some places you need a 3.0 engine build with a 2.6 charger slapped on it, other places you might not be far off from where you're at now. Just depends.

I'm just outside of Memphis TN but I would love to pull with the guys up north. Trucks that pull around here get classified as BAD ASS then go up north and are disappointed. Don't get me wrong there are a few that are strong no matter where they are that is what I want.

and at that, I turn this over to others. :D Good luck.

I'm sure a warmed over pump would be in order, custom charger, cam, then no idea. HA As you can see this ain't what I drive. Just helping as best I could. :Cheer::

To have a very good running 2.6 truck your going to need a good size cam, 13mm pump, headstuds and fire rings, healthy lift pump....
How much are you looking to spend, cause the sky is the limit.

Well I did plan on fire rings and port and polishing I do have a 150 air dog with draw straw but how wild of a cam can you go with before you have to change or modify pistons? What turbo would work well and what size is a factory pump?

Not that you cant be competitive with a drop in cam(requires no valve reliefs) in my opinion it is going to require more cam than that if you wanted to place high at an event such as scheids or TS. Like Smokeshow said, alot of it depends on the area you pull in.
Same with a 13mm pump, If you want to beat the best, it will be a necessity.

As GRotman said. You need a good p pump that delivers fuel quickly and plenty of it on hand. You will also need a good lift pump to provide it with the fuel as well. Such as an AirDog 200:rockwoot: Then you can hit the guys at up at Bullseye Power for a good charger. Dont forget a good set of 5x.018 injectors will work out good as well.

Who makes the 5x.018 injectors. I hear alot of people call injectors by horsepower. on here I see injectors by these numbers,so what horsepower might these be. What would a stock injector be? Thanks

Ya the HP numbers are dumb to me. Once you get an idea of what the hole size is you need you will get an idea how to size them to your application. I have never got any injectors from Chris Watson but I hear alot of people that love them. I would hit him up for some. I THINK his name is SuperSonic?? Correct me if I am wrong. I have mine cut by JL Machine. Never had an issue with any that I have got from him. Great guy and great products. :rockwoot:

you don't need a 13mm pump to win in the 2.6class. a 215 pump with laser cut dv's, 0 plate, 5gsk and increased timing somewhere between 20-25*.
Turbo silver66 or S465. titanium retainers and hardened keepers are a good idea if you gonna be spinning over 4k. a good cam is a must also F1 makes some good ones and so does haisley machine. either go with an electric water pump or clip a couple fins off of the factory pump, spinning high rpms will create alot of water pressure. call haisley and get their HD black intercooler boots or you'll blow your stock ones right off same with the fancy colored silicone ones. your suspension setup will be just as important as your engine. good a/t tires BFG ot SS TRXS radials,i ran 2in taller coil springs and 315 tires and had no bouncing issues, block the suspension for minimal travel, ,if the truck is just for pulling weld the rear end and install an arb locker in the front. you need a weight bracket and all of the safety equpment to meet the rules driveshaft hoops and u-joit shields

215 pumps aren't the best for high rpm... At full rack travel timing is retarded a few degrees.. For fueling, Id recommend 5x.016's with .018-.020 washers, 4100 psi pop-off, 26* of timing, 180 pump, or an aftermarket 12mm with different barrels and plungers, or preferably you can buy a 13mm pump and preferably you can buy MY brand new 13mm pump with a quick rate cam!!!! :D

i know 13mm are alot better but also alot more expensive, a 215 pump will get you into the top 5 here in ohio, but if you can afford a 13mm pump then get one

I have a '97 with a 215hp P-7100, no plate, laser cuts, 30* of timing, Silver Bullet, and a CDS 5K kit, do you think I will make the top ten @ Scheid?

:umno:

EDIT: Smokem I have sent you a PM a while ago, can you please respond?

what size silver bullet and do you have bigger injectors and whats done to the suspension? as long as you have a good dual disk with that setup you should run pretty good as long as your not afraid to launch over 4000k, a silver66 won TS perforance's pull 2 years ago with a set up pretty close to what you have.
