New engine build Scania DC1601 for our semi truckpuller.

Seems like a faster ratio in the rear end would help a little bit on the big end and wouldn't kill the response coming out of the corners too bad if you didn't make a drastic ratio change.

I would run that by Lenny first. Lol

@ SmokinCAT Yes we discussed that as well but taken into account that a HX60 shaft and wheel are a lot heavier compared to a BorgWarner S400SX3 with an even bigger compressor wheel it can be that we get the same turbo response due to lower inertia but with some testing we will find out.

Yesterday pull ending up in second place. We now use a low profile tyre bit the same as prostock tractors use and we still have to find a balance with tyre pressure and gear selection.

Went over to this customer to program and install water methanol injection on this 2.5L 5 cylinder VW TDI engine.
Customer told me the engine did not make the same power as before thinking he bow a head gasket. Well it’s a diesel and you will need a lot of effort to hurt this engine so ask him the pull the air take of the turbo and yes a clear case of over speeding the turbo so a perfect time to install the bigger version and do some testing.:woohoo:

Had a go in this car as well. This thing pulls like insane got only 3 gears (180KMh top speed) and instant power/torque so easy to power slide but a hard job to go straight as it almost pulls the front wheels off the ground when you step on it. Diesel is fun! :charger:

I really like the Scania engines! I have not worked on a DC16 yet, just the DC09 and the DC13. They are very impressive engines! I like your pulling truck a lot!

To bad I had a job in Greece working on a Volvo drag race truck installing an engine management on a D12A engine so I could to join the party in Denmark but had good fun testing launch control and where able to get 1000 wheel HP with 22 AFR @ 4,5Bar boost or 65PSI boost but decided not to go further in power as we did not have a wastegate on the low pressure turbocharger to reduce boost and turbo speed.
Launch control what a load of fun to program. 3Bar (43PSI) boost on 1500Rpm EGT of 500 centigrade in a split second no problem but had to reduce power as the rear breaks could not hold while in first gear running on the torque converter.

Not the ideal track for us this time but we are happy with a 3 place.

Stuck between two gears and not able to get traction by a lack of pressure on the rear wheels. Sometimes you pay the price for a heavy V8 engine that is placed far up front in the truck but on other tracks we benefit from this

I love what ever that yellow conventional it. Looks mean with the two flames coming out if the hood. What is it a Deutz? Is it running a Deutz motor? The only Deutz I know of are the air cooled motors in older tractors!

I think it used to have aircooled Deutz but was switched to Iveco V8.

Team Rhino Rocket (the yellow truck) is using a Iveco V8 17.2L engine with 2x BorgWarner S500SX and TiAl wastegates and a Sigma fuelpump.

Did a bit of engineering on this engine and now they are beating our Scania V8. LOL. One big happy family on the track.:Cheer:

Last week project. Luxo-Sport Truckraceteam from France for the installation of an Adaptronic diesel ECU system.

The race truck has a D12C 12L Volvo engine with fast cams and bigger injectors.
Question as always is what Hp will these modification give as we where not able to dyno the truck due to a bank holyday on Thursday and we had a limited timeframe as they needed to leave in time.

We did make some test runs and @ the first run I was thinking oeps a bit less fuel needed as we did get smoke. Second run it cleared all smoke. Seems the engine needs some temperature to get things working and the happy smile of the driver told me he got some more Hp than before.

The benefit of fitting a Aftermarket diesel ECU system is that they are able to make changes a lot easier and are able to upgrade things like an electronic controlled wastegate for example and have the option for different torque response on a switch for dry and wet track conditions.
Also a speed trim pot for setting max read speed is a very handy option to get to 160Kmh max road speed.

Score for this long race weekend with the Scania XPI race truck. Two wins and a second place with a reverse starting grid in the last race.

Plenty of power with the new turbo as the driver decides to use the torque control setting for wet track conditions to get some more control on things.:hehe:

This weekend 2 pulling events and first time NTTO running 8.5Ton so hope to get some balance in the truck as we normally run 9.5Ton weight.

Have fun. LOL.

You have been using these MAHA-dynos, is there something wrong with this one or is it normal that it gives up with high hp engines. Operator says it does the same with every truck at about 800 hp or higher. My wheel speed was almost 170 km/h so wheeltorque or tractive force should not be very high.

@ Leiffi I don’t know where you want to go with this but making more than 1000 wheel Hp on a rolling road I find a it a mad job knowing on some projects you got more than 600Hp left and over 800Rpm more before the speed governor kicks is and what is the dyno break can not hold? Last time in Greece with the D12A Volvo engine we had our hands full getting to grips controlling the power and wheel speed and this dyno had two breaks in it fully loading one break attempting to hold speed with the second break and cross your fingers when the pedal goes to the floor.
Rolling road great for making numbers but not so great for getting data and making changes that work well on the track. I can do an engine set-up a lot faster if I have 2Km of straight road so I can make the same runs time after time. For most project we only use a rolling road to set begin of injection @ part load even as most rolling road can not handle the power or are not willing having a risk of damage to there rolling road. Just a bit of reality. bif
