Im selling my competition mud truck to buy an older ford 7.3 diesel, I havent pulld much except for hooking my mudder to the sled for fun, I was hoping that some of you could help me with a few things like weight rack, gearing, diffs, and some engine component decisions.

Will be pulling the 2.6 class

Before being askd yes i am young i am 16 but i have been around 4x4 mud trucks since i could walk and i know my way around a shop and an engine but im bored with 4 wheeling and diesel pulling seems to be almost an elite sport to some, and i want to get into it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If your set on the Ford might want to talk to House he's got one of the best pulling strokes out there.

A Big pocket book! It takes alot of money to even get these dodges to be competitive in the 2.6 class anymore much less a powerstroke. What kind of funds do you have probably not much for 16?

my family owns a large lawn/tree service i will be sponsored but must get going myself, 4000 after i sell the truck, i will work up to the 2.6 class,i plan to run twin turbo. My dad will hopefully match me so i will have 8000 to play with and im buying an old forestry truck or road dept. truck

its either a powerstroke or a cummins is my only compromise, what gears and differential would yall reccomend? I wsa thinking 4:88's, full spool rear and mini spool front.

First thing you can't run twin turbo's in the 2.6 class or any class in sled pulling besides mod and you will need a few more zeros on the 8,000. If you were to pull the motor and find a decen 12valve laying around and build that decent you would have a good starting platform and a competitive truck in the 2.6 class.

no twins are allowed in the 2.6 class....

What rear end does the Ford have? Anything less than a dana 80 in back is gonna be carnage. Gotta factor in weight bracket, traction bars and all that also.

dana 60 in the one im lookin at but i can get ahold of any rear end i need that wont be a prob

Thats what im leaning towards i run a sterling in my mud truck and its nevere failed.

That might be true, but as you'll soon find out, sledpulling is harder on driveline parts than mud bogging... Anything less than a Dana 80 isn't enough IMO. If I was you I would try to get a 12V cummins. You can run it in a ford if you want, but dollar for dollar, you will get alot more bang for your buck in the 2.6 class.

may just pick up an older 2500 dodge, right now ive gotta make sure theres enough pulls in my area/region to justify me doin this. Its a big commitment that im prepared for if ill get to pull enough
