No Lockup or OD?

Truck is a '94 2500 2wd regular cab auto with about 235,000 miles on it. Only mods are an AirDog II, 4" exhaust, Garmon triple-disc converter, and I messed with the pump a little.

It runs like a top, starts instantly, and idles perfect. The trans also shifted perfect before I messed with the pump.

Immediately after messing with the pump (as in first drive after) it stopped locking the converter or going into overdrive by itself. I now have to use a converter lockup switch for it.

I bought a pot mod for it and that did nothing. Even verified that the pot was working like it's supposed to and it was, but it had no effect on the trans.

Also the cruise control will steadily make the truck go faster and faster if you try and use it.

Now, if I'm towing with it, the symptoms diminish. The heavier the load, the less it does it. If I tow my F250 with it, the Dodge will lock the converter and go into overdrive and the cruise control will work just fine.

So what could it be? I would think it has to be something with the pump but I have no idea what. All I did on the pump was shim the governor springs, grind to fuel plate to a 100 profile, and turn the start wheel some. Other than the trans issue it runs perfect.

Any ideas what I should be looking for? Or should I get another pump and see what happens? I messed with the tpc some and it helped a little bit but it ran out of adjustment. And I thought the pot mod was supposed to do away with it anyway, but it had no effect.

Thanx for any help.

If someone can figure this out I'll send 'em a bag of our secret crawfish/shrimp seasoning. :D

Any time I've changed anything in the governor springs the cruise NEVER operates like it does stock. I'm about to go with an aftermarket electronic unit to see if that cures it. I'm talking 4 different p-pump trucks here not just 1 experience fwiw. As far as the OD & lockup that could be a few different reasons.

Yes, but this ALL happened after messing with the pump. Have you had an issue with it not locking up after screwing with the springs?

I guess I'll try and put the pump back to stock or find a replacement pump and see what happens if no one can suggest anything.

double check the TPS is plugged back in and the plug isnt loose at the trans.

Danny, I can't see any way the governor springs have anything to do with lockup or od. I was just saying every time I mess with changing springs or adding a washer etc. my cruise does not work as it should. Your lockup problem is either electrical. Or something mechanical on the transmission. I can't see the pump as the problem on lockup or od unless its TPS related.

Hmmm. Well, I guess I'll fool with it some this weekend if I get a chance. Expect a lot more posts, lol.

Update??? Buddys truck is having similar symptoms...

check and replace if necesary the sensor on the oil line coming out of the trans if its not reading 69 degrees or so it will not go to overdrive ,but since you have done some work in the pump area check your tps or plug

The fact that it works normal when towing a load leads me to believe it's the transmission temperature sensor. You can replace it with a 1000 ohm 1/4 watt resistor from radio shack for about $2, or just spend the $65 for a new sensor.

every time i see these no OD or lockup threads i just think to myself im so glad mine is full manual!

My truck cruises just fine with the auto, if you hit the accelerate button it will accelerate!! and fast!

My friends truck would do that only when the outside temp was cold did the reaistor trick in the temp sensor plug it kinda helped but didnt fix it ended up just putting a lock up switch on it and force it into lockup and od it makes it faster anyway

my truck wont kick into lock up or overdrive either when the OUTSIDE temp is cold to truck can be running for hours hooked it up to a scan tool truck didnt think it was getting out of 2nd gear speed sensors looked right i did the lock up n overdrive override switches and kinda want the damn thing running right already have u guys figured it out yet or any ideas on what it could possibly be?

Finally got mine to work now that the truck is sold. LOL

I had changed the temp sensor a couple times with no change. Tried the pot mod still no change. Tried the temp sensor again and still no change. Then tried the resistor mod on the temp sensor; still nothing. Then last night just for chits and giggles I decided to hook the pot mod back up while the resistor was in and it has now started working.

No idea why it wouldn't work with the other temp sensors, or with just the resistor and not the pot, but it's working great now. Converter locks and goes into overdrive (and stays locked and in overdrive) right around 45mph like it's supposed to now.

Figures I'd get it working after selling the truck. :hehe:
