Where are the conversion parts I need???? Cant beat the beef of the 205!

But I heard with the 271 it will change the shift pattern and I dont know what else if I had a deffinate answer as to what case I needed and what would have to be done I would love to go that route. I now have the DLD case.

A DHD will hold up to tons of abuse. Look at Brad Ingam, Coppess, Curt Haisley. Haisley and Ingram ran over 1000HP through a 241DHD.

I second that and it wasn't as hard a conversion as you think. I only had to clearance my driver side frame rail a bit with a hammer as well as my crossmember. Other than that it was a straight swap. I broke my 241 DHD just tooling around on off-road trails and have had no problems what-so-ever with the 271. It is also rated at double the load capacity of the 241DHD
Also, not sure why people say the shift pattern changes, the one I got from Transfer Case Express in Oakland has the same pattern of 4-low, N, 2-Hi, 4-Hi. I had to adjust the linkage a bit but it is the same as the 241 DHD. I also had the flange style output shaft installed so I did not have to deal with the slip yoke anymore. Slip yoke is now on the driveshaft.

Yes the low ratio is different. The 98+ trucks it is pretty simple. The 97 and down you loose the speedo. As well as having some shifter pattern issues.

Transfer Case Express can build cases with the speedo sensor hole...they did for me. I think my shift patter is for a 98-up too, so not sure about that!

They can build a 271 with a speedo hole? The shaft on the 241 has a worm gear to drive the speedo.

If you go the 271 route, Unbroken has one for sale in the classifieds....

Sorry...meant to specify a 241DHD...since most of those came out of the later trucks with ABS sensors for the speedo!

The 241DHD that don't have the hole, actually have something in the casting that pretty much has the same casting.

Dont all the NP205s dump on the RIGHT side anyway???? atleast all 3 of the 205s i have do that. and a 241DHD is just as good.

get one from a ford its on the same side , then the adaptor is around 200+ depends on who from and its all gears no chain

Got one from a ford in the garage that is why I questioned this. I have one in my gas puller and know it is gear to gear death cast iron chunck.

Low NP205 (1.98:1) Eeeek

Low NP241 (2.72:1)

Low NP271 (2.72:1)

I guess I should have stated that if you broke a DHD, I would recomend going to the 271. Tranfercase exspress used a Ford shift plate in mine which allowed me to keep the shift pattern for the 97 truck. yes you loose the speedo no big deal if it's dedicated puller if its not I understand you get a signal from the tone ring in the rear pumpkin.
