nv4500 input shaft install preload settings

anybody have a write up or install tips on properly setting up an input shaft with the correct shims?

most people just bolt the new input shaft into the tranny, ive read and heard that there is a shimming process to set the correct preload on the bearings...

how many people have just tossed it in there and how many have had it shimmed?

you would think the preload on the bearing, the contact of the gears "the way the mesh" and all that would have to be perfect for it to last. Kind of like seting up a ring and pinion.

The factory spec is 0.002-0.006" end play. There are shims at the rear bearing to adjust if necessary.

Just installed big input on friday. There was not any shims on the stock shaft.

Like mentioned earlier. The shims are on the rear mainshaft bearing.
