well i think its time to change the fluid in my 6spd. ive done searching and was just going to post on the thread that i found but it was closed. so with that being said, how many qts will it take, i've read 6? was going to use this fluid-

AMSOIL Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 5W-30

i work at a gm dealership so was gonna get it at the shop there. if i understand right at the bottom of their web page this fluid crosses in the gm # thats on the gm bottle. correct? the number i have off the gm bottle is 12345349.

I just put 6qts of penzoil sycromesh in mine. It shifts ok but I'm not impressed with it.

At one time or another I have run the amsoil synchromesh and the pennzoil. I am not one to buy into the hype of synthetics but I do have to say the amsoil was far and away better than the pennzoil. Shifted flawlessly and never ground a gear with it. Reverse never did act right with pennzoil and occasionally ground 3rd as well.

I've run both and can't say I noticed any difference. Bought the truck new, has 243k and counting. So both work.

did anyone look at the cross reference number? im guessing the stuff in the gm qts is actually made by amsoil just with a gm label on the qt?

I just changed mine earlier tonight before I left work. So far I haven't noticed much of a difference, I wanted to go amsoil but went with the penzoil because of the $$. Also put in 6qts

doesnt royal purple put out a new fluid for these transmissions??? Was thinking about trying one of those???

The original fluid recommended was Texaco Code 1874 MTX. Here's a spec sheet along with other approved and recommended fluids. http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/Tex_5600_fluid.pdf

Specs call for 9.5 pints (4.75qts.). When I had mine serviced, the shop ended up receiving a case with 6qts. I had them add it all. I've heard of some guys running up to 8qts. without any puking from the vent.

Royal purple does make a manual trans fluid when i Had my duramax I used it, my god it was expensive I thin like almost 20 bucks a qt not sure tho its been a while. It was okay but I I still had the truck I'd def switch to ams oil

I run Red Line as well. I take the shift tower off the top and pour it in that way. Can't remember how many quarts I put in last time. Probably should have wrote that down. Doh.

I ran 6 quarts of plain 50 weight transmission oil and a half a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. Now I have 6 quarts of Amsoil Syncromesh in it. I don't notice a bit of difference in shift ability.

I have ran 6 quarts of amsoil in the past. I have 6quarts of penzoil in it now I cant tell a difference in the two.

i ran amsoil in a few of the 5600's ive had, no complaints.
