Never had o-rings done, but want to try them out. I searched but didn't see any specs. Thanks

Brad did a .041 wire in mine with .010 protrusion. dead center of the fire ring on the gasket.

Just read somewhere Brad said .007-.008 on a street engine, which this will be. I remember at one time there was a big thread about this, can't find it though.

.010-.012 is normal these days, I have one at .018.....9 years old and another at .014.....4 years old. Brad is a smart cookie, take his advise!

Didn't mean it like that jim. Just what I had in my notes for future reference.

NP bud, I think most people use .041 wire, Piers used .051 on my head and I just stayed with it. When Randy my local cyl head guy did the one in my avatar he set it at .014, big protrusion takes a bit more time to get it all set when torquing the head down.

Cool, Think I will get .010 with .041 wire like dezelfrek said then!

0.041" stainless wire, groove 0.029" deep 0.039" wide 120mm bore center.

Here is one I just finished this morning. .041 wire cut .030 deep

^^ X2 ^^

if you just have the head off, i understand why you cut the o ring in the head. on the other hand, if your doing a complete rebuild, wouldnt it make more sense to o ring the block?

if you already have your block set up in the boring bar, it would be just one more minor step to cut the o ring in the block, then if you ever wanted to use a different head in the future there is no need to have it o ringed.

whats the benefit to a double o ring?

I'm not positive there is any. But when I blew my gasket, I was running 90psi+ and a single ring is no guarantee at that level. Some of the local pulling tractors are running 2 O-rings at some insane boost levels, so I thought that I would give it a shot.

Since then I've made some changes to get the boost down, so maybe it was overkill. I just know that I really don't want to pull the head again. One thing though, it took a while to get them seated. I torqued it 5 times before the nuts stopped moving.
