o ring vs fire ring?

that very well be true but he decompressed quite abit so you say with no orings and just head bolts garmon can get my 17.1 compression engine not to blow a head gasket i highley doubt it

Jeff is decommpressed a bit....Not sure on ratio but I think he cuts .100 off the 12V pistons.......That what we cut off my CR pistons as well..I've still got stock bolts at almost 800.....But I must conceed that at 17:1 and 800, It might not hold wit stock bolts.....But, who knows....If it can be done, Jeff would....

Jeff has done his torque procedure on a few 500+ hp trucks that i know of, and they are holding! I'm sure it can be done!

You sure about that?

YUP!!!! I'm very positive...His Race Truck and the Ram 2000 ....both Stock head bolts!!!! I posted pics a long time ago of the Ram 2000....I could dig them up....that's at 700+ HP.....Race truck is over 800.....

Not saying its the best or heck even good, but I still use neither, and no ive never cut any material off the pistons. Just 12mm studs and a .020 HG nothing fancy here. Flat, clean well preped surfaces and mantining DP is what I believe helps keep them in tack.

Sorry for the De-rail there man..

I've got O-rings and there doin well but very few miles yet...

Ty (triton) Has his block FireRing'd with 14mm studs and he drives that Dam MegaCab to every race he attends.....They seem to be serving him well....But it is a Scheid motor...

Darren Morrison (Quarterman) had done several CR's for Daily using FireRing's and having good luck as well....

If I ever have any issue's with my o-ring's , I'm probably gonna have my Head Re-cut for FireRing's and give them a try....

my 14mm's were installed bc the 12mm's wouldnt crush the rings on #3 and 4 cylinder evenly. i went through 2 sets of fire rings with 12mm studs and the both leaked. some close looking by the builder showed the problem with uneven crush on the rings. do to othe rissues my block came out and while it was out 14mm's got installed and we did a test crush on them and they crush very even and that is what i am still runing. i will run 12mm's and o rings on my spare motor, as soon as i can afford to buld it. i do have the uneven rings sitting in my door panel to show people that doubt what happened. thanks j

110K miles on my o-rings, I'm not saying firerings can't hold in a daily driver, but the risk of failure is higher with firefings vs o-rings in a DD. We've had a local truck loose 3 gaskets in a yr. with a firering setup done by a reputable diesel shop.

I'm pretty sure I was at Jeff's shop long ago, I know what he uses, the debate was O-rings vs fire rings, not if he uses headbolts. I was at his Open House in November, I leave Iowa once in awhile.

Im aware of the thread topic....Not trying to be an A$$, but go back and look at what you Quoted from Mudn_1....Post #22...The ONLY thing I can see in what You Quoted that you may have been questioning is the Stock head bolts!!! May have just been to vague.....

Say what you mean and mean what you say!!!

Other than that ................:Cheer:.........Maybe i'm just Slow!!!
