O rings

I also cut .030 grooves and use .041 SS wire seems to work just fine. Whats your machinist using to cut the grooves?

what is the cost for having a head o Ringed?

would it be worth wile to have them do more work on it while it was off

I have used 041 ss wire, 041 Inconel wire and 051 ss wire.
The Inconel is so much easier to work with. I Like to end up around .010-.012.

My guy shot for 12-14 with an .051 wire on this last head.

i use .041 ss piano wire. its very hard and does not deform when I tap it in the head with a brass hammer. .039 grove, with .012 protrusion

Resurecting an oldy, searched but couldn't find the answers I need.

1. Should the wire contact each other after being installed? Mine has a small gap between the two.

2. Where should the gap be placed on the head? Mine are located between the two exhaust ports. Seems like this should be the worst place to put the two ends.???

i remember reading on a thread somewhere that you grind and angle on the edges of the wires so they over lap a little but i dont really know. dont have any experience in this department yet. atleast as long as my head gasket is still holding. :cheer:

Robert at Source Automotive o-ringed both of my heads, and I can't even see the transition (no old, blind jokes, please!). I wouldn't put the transition between the cylinders, but other then that it doesn't matter.

ok, thanks guys, where can i get some wire to tap it in myself?

there are companies that sell seamless o-rings. the problem we had with them was consistency of the o.d. if you are in a pinch go to your local welding supply store and get a spool of wire if they have the correct size, also tig welding rod works .

Safety wire from a place like Acklands, or a most fastener places, or Aircraft supply places.
