***On the road help needed***

Yup, DTT came highly recommended and I know I had on in my future but was just not wanting it right now. If I wasn't towing I probably could have gimped it somewhere but I want it fixed right and not have this happen again on the next mountain pass..... it sucks being stuck on the side of the road with semi's passing 6 feet from you at 70mph..... Thought the trailer was going to tip over a few times:)

Wahoo, parts just showed up so it is time to start rebuilding. The TC will be here tomorrow and then it can go back in!!! Should be back on the road by Friday morning if all goes right....

Well just wanted to give you all an update. I got everything fixed and made it to my destination safe and sound. The reason I am posting this is for others to learn from my mistakes as hindsite is always easier to see things...

Well in the end the transducer was the cause of the transmission failure but that wasn't found until after the rebuild. Looking back my transmission has been bad for quite some time and I just didn't know. My truck since I bought it has been starting out in 3rd gear and basically just using 3rd and 4th gear for everything. Well when you pull a 14,000 lb trailer it doesn't take long for the tranny to go:) For me not knowing much about transmissions other than you put it in gear and push on the gas and go. If you need to go a little faster you give it more right pedal. Well after getting the trailer I noticed it slow to start out. Well it is a heavy trailer so I chocked it up to that and bought a programmer for a little extra power to get me going. I was always hearing all of you talking about how great these trucks are for towing and doing burn outs but I just couldn't do it and figured I was doing something wrong. I never paid attention to how it shifted or counted the shifts. For those of you out there with auto trannys I highly recommend you pay attention in the future to the number of shifts. Trust me I do now:) After we got the transmission rebuilt with a DTT master rebuild kit we were out testing and fine tuning when we noticed the shifts not right. To me this all felt normal and was ready to go on my merry way but luckily I had some honest guys working it and told me this wasn't right and we found the problem. Now this thing just screams and tows like a champ. This DTT rebuilt tranny is just amazing with thier triple disc converter, shift kit and all the other little dodads in it. I am in love with my truck again. It was pulling those hills along I-40 from NM to California no problem and kept the power to the ground. The converter is nice and strong and aided in the engine braking or like it. I was able to keep it locked up and safely tow down the hills with the 14,000 lb toyhauler and barely hit the brakes even on the long hills. It was like having an exhaust brake installed. IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Thanks to everyone that responded and provided input and a special thanks to everyone at DTT for all their help and getting me going again in a hurry. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone as they are top notch with a great product.

I hope I didn't ramble on to long as I just took my pain meds:)

Good post!

I'm a firm believer that if people understood more about their automatic transmissions (or transmissions in general) there wouldn't be nearly as many failures. As you now know, you were abusing your poor trans without even knowing it!
