Well guys I've been on this site for about a year now and I decided it was time to start this build thread. Even though the truck has gone through the majority of the build it still has a ways to go.

I bought the truck on Valentine's Day last year locally for $2300. It's a 1992 Dodge D250 RCLB. It had an aftermarket 14cm exhaust housing on it, a 4" exhaust, and the ve pump had been turned up a few turns. After tinkering with it for a few months I decide I wanted more and that would come in the form of a 215hp, 887, P-pump and a 47rh tranny. I bought the pump and swap parts here on compd and have been collecting ever since. Here are the current plans for the truck:

•Custom built Hx35/S475 twin turbos
•5x14 JL Machine injectors edm'd to 5x16, no edge filters, internal work done by Weston, set to 280bar
•Benched and balanced 887 p-pump with 4k governor springs, Weston 7mm 100cc dv's, racked barrels, no fuel plate
•Tork Tek 060hp overflow valve
•Maxspool 184/210 cam, 110 LSA
•Maxspool pushrods
•New 24v tappets
•60# valve springs
•Titanium keepers and 10* locks
•Ported head done by Ryan Lenahan; fire ringed, decked,
magna-fluxed
•ARP 425 head studs
•Steed Speed exhaust manifold
•AirDog 165 gph lift pump
•L&L Productions ladder bars

The truck is being built by Cory Dow in Folsom, California. His name is rockjeep73 on here. The truck is currently in the first phase. It's getting the pump swapped on, the new cam, tappets, pushrods, and the new head and valve train. I'm getting the tranny shipped as we speak which will also be built by Cory Dow and swapped in as soon as it's done. The turbos are in my possession but the piping is going to be built when time allows. As of now it will be run with the hx35. I would love to here what you guys think and I'll put some pics up on here so you guys can see what it's looking like. Feel free to ask questions on the swap and what in entails. I would also appreciate any advice on tranny parts and where to get them from. Enjoy!

Here's what the truck looks like as it sits

Start of the engine tear down. More pics of the tear down below

Head is off and pump is removed

Camshaft is removed

In order to hold the tappets up while taking the camshaft out, wooden dowels are used and then zip tied to each other at the top to hold the dowels from falling down.

When removing the camshaft, there's a brace on the core support that is solid and can't be unbolted. It has to be cut out and then replaced when the new cam is in. Cory and his brother Cole are awesome fabricators and had no problem making this nice bolt on piece.

Rocker arm pedestals machined down for the new arp head studs

Cam gear getting pressed on the new cam. The cam is also tapped for a retainer.

Here's a tool that Cory built to change the tappets/lifters out.

The new Maxspool cam all ready to go in.

Got the P-pump case on and the new cam is in and the retainer installed

Pump is on and bolted up!

The factory return line was bent at the end so Cory once again showed his mad fab skills by cutting the bent part off and mating it to the factory ve return line. Instead of dealing with rubber house that may crack and wear over time it's all hard line.

Pump gear is on and timing is getting set. I plan on running 22*

Front end being put back together a little but not fully yet.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1373325035.364106.jpg

Cover is bolted on and harmonic balancer is put on as well. It's starting to all come together!

The new head with valves and springs put in. This is how it sits now. The top end is being assembled and after that the engine portion of this build is pretty much done. I can't wait to hear it take it's first breaths of air.

Should work out nice. Cory knows what he's doing.

Damn I'm jealous. I've got a huge collection of sh!t for my 92 LE that I was gonna use on my half ton build (since abandoned). Are you gonna drive the truck with the 727 and Ppump before the swap?

Yes I do plan on driving it with the stock 518 till the tranny gets built. I know, here comes the "you better be careful" comments but that's what I intend to do. I'lll be on the stock 518 for only a few weeks. Probably less than a month.

Sorry about the picture of the truck itself not working. Here's some of the truck:

Well we had a few setbacks concerning the head and the fire rings but it has since been all figured out. The head should get set on this evening or tomorrow and once it's buttoned up I'll post some more pics and let you guys know what it does. I believe it will be fired first on Thursday and several re-torques will be required since I'm using ARP 425 head studs instead of the 625's so Saturday looks like the day it will be done and brought home. I'll keep you guys updated.

Here's the head gasket getting set in place.

And it's on!!! It's just sitting on the block for now but the fire rings are all in and it's ready to be torqued down. The rocker arms and the bridges still need to be put on as well but it's even closer to being finished.

It's alive! It runs great and boy oh boy this thing screams. I'll get some more pics up tomorrow and explain more for you guys. If there's any questions just feel free to ask. I started this thread because I had never seen anyone do a full build thread on P-pumping a first gen.

Cool build man! I've been the one worrying Cory about fire rings...turns out our gaskets were different thicknesses lol.

Even with the 518 and HX35 you should be over 400....which in a 5,000-5,500lb truck should feel pretty good!

Did Cory sneak nitrous on it yet? :hehe:

Haha, yeah we were pretty worried over that until we figured out I had a thicker head gasket. Man the throttle is super touchy and it's way more responsive and pulls much harder than the ve could. Problem is it smokes pretty good if you don't pay attention. We put the 181's back in to take some fuel out and it helped but it's still running fat. I can't wait to get the twins and tranny in and really get after it.
