Does anybody know what this means? My AE doesn't tell me anything but "Engine Over-Temperature Conditions" She has been saying that sometimes when she put it in park(Dodge) the idle speed goes up over 1000 RPM. Anybody have a problem like this before?

P0217-DECREASED ENGINE PERFORMANCE DUE TO ENGINE OVERHEAT CONDITION

Possible Causes:

ECT SENSOR
OTHER DTC’S
MECHANICAL FAILURE

you could need to replace the coolant temp sensor

If the engine is not overheating then I would deff. say you have a bad ect or the wire is shorted somewhere for that circuit. The computer will idle up the engine if it thinks it is overheating to increase the water flow through the engine and increase fan speed. Joe

Thanks guys it was about a gallon low in the radiator,but it still is alittle hot. But I'll see how it does tomarrow.
