P1693 Code

My truck keeps on popping up a P1693 code, no matter how many times I clear it.

P1693 - Indicates a fault code has been generated in the companion engine control module.

Can someone help me figure out how to see that code? I have a Snap On MT2500 scanner, but I'm not sure how to get into that companion module to read the codes.

Don't worry about it. Most trucks with you start messing with them pop that code.

99.9999% of the time it's nothing. I've had it and had the codes read by the dealer and all they pulled was 1693. Waste of $90. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a Snap On MT2500 scanner that "should" be able to read those codes, but I can't figure out how to do it.

When I go to the body module, it says it can't connect with it.

tyler is right but one time i had them pulled and the was a coolant temp too high too long and the truck was in limp mode!!

Go to autozone, they read them for free,I just did that last night, hauled big blue down on a trailer, turns out my guess was right, got the P0234 and P1688(injection pump out)
P.S.,the key on and off trick only gave me that p1693 code too.

A1693 code is a companion code and yes it has every bit to do with having another code stored in either the PCM or ECM. This code lets you know that another code exsists.

What a BRILLIANT idea!:bang Lets show a code that means there is a code instead of just showing the real code! Freakin' jerks. :kick: If we designed stuff around here like those jackasses that design our trucks we'd all be looking for jobs. My personal opinion...I would want to know what it is. I'd rather not take the .001% chance that I could be walking home on I-35 20 miles from home. :D

I don't know if you read the first couple posts, but I have a MT2500 scanner which, when new, was a several thousand $$ scanner. It's pretty much "the" scanner until the Solis, Modis, OTC Genisys, etc came out recently, so I would think it would read anything the parts store scanner would, plus lots more.

(This post is not me a being an ass type thing, just explaining a little bit about the scanner)

I messed around with it more today and I found a few codes related to the transmission. TCC Lockup and another one, don't remember. I cleared them and seems to be ok. I'm gonna run it around for a while and check again.

I'm not sure if that's causing the 1693 code or not?

I'm borrowing the scanner and I haven't used them a whole ton before so I'm pretty much learning as I go. I found a section you can do injector cutout too. Didn't know you could do that on the VP44 trucks.

Tranny codes should be coming from the PCM, not the ECM. And you are right, your scanner should tell you all that info. Is there a tech support line to call in the manual or literature that came with your scanner? There is a lot of confusion about what is ECM and what is PCM and the code you are throwing may mean one or the other or both depending on what year your truck is. See if you can find a listing of codes for your year truck only instead of just a generic list of universal codes. Make sure they are dodge diesel truck codes. I troubleshot, tore up, and replaced a PCM recently for $400 because the generic code said PCM failure when in fact I found a dodge diesel truck code list and it specifically said "ECM" failure. Then I spent another $500 and fixed what was failed in the first place. On the gas trucks the PCM controls the engine also. On the diesels, we have a PCM and an ECM so generic codes don't alway work. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Do you run a lockup switch? My truck throws a couple of different tranny codes due to my lockup switch. It's nothing to be afraid of.

Yeah I do, and that's what I was thinking on that one.

I have the Chrysler cartridges that I'm using and the scanner is looking at a 98 Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4 with A/T from the readout it gives (asks for the VIN and everything)

I'm borrowing the scanner, so I'm going to have my friend take a look tomorrow and see what he says. He went to school for all this stuff, I'm just a shadetree mechanic.

One was P0622 and there was 2 others.

One for something called a generator output. I read up on what the scanner said and to me it sounded like the regulator on the alternator. Pretty much it read that The PCM was trying to control the voltage, but it wasn't working correctly. NO idea why that came up under the transmission module :hehe:

Yeah I wouldn't worry about those. Mine popped them all the time and I'm still on the stock alternator at 163k miles.

Ok, The P0622 was the generator deal.

P0622 Generator Field "F" Control Circuit Malfunction

Now that means nothing to me haha, but the scanner talked about the voltage not matching what the PCM wanted and I took that to mean it was the alternator. Maybe they are talking signal generator in the trans? I dunno.

P1767 was another which is Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction for Torque convertor clutch
(probably from the manual lockup)

And I don't remember the other code. I should have wrote them down, but I chocked it off to the codes being old so I just reset them. I'm going to drive the truck for the next few days and check it back to see if they come back up.

It's real interesting seeing all the info you can get out of these scanners!, but know what it means would help out more haha!

Ok a 622 code F circut , look at the field and stator wire connection. This connection will break from vibration at the plug itself. So look close.
