Has anyone done it? Anyone have Pics? Im thinking about getting a paintable non sport bumper and match it to my truck. Should i have the whole thing painted or leave the lower air dam and upper plastic piece black? Or should i leave the chrome part chrome and just paint all the plastic to match? I dont know which would look better.
Also does anyone have a part number for the factory tow hooks for our year trucks?
Thanks

98 & 99 Sport trucks were painted metal bumpers. Looks good. I'll see if I can find a pic.

I took all my pastic off and painted it gloss black. Looks good, makes the chrome middle part stand out more.

I cant post them up here. Do you have an email? Maybe you can figure out how to get the up.

Sign up for a photobcuket.com account and upload them to there and copy/paste the IMG code. I would like to see them also as I am thinking about doing the same as you., I'll pm you my email and send them if you cant get them up.

Heres mine with new bumper covers. The bottom came the factory gray, then I painted it Black.

You can paint the stock plastics by scuffing it, cleaning it very well with thinner. Then spray on some Bulldog adhesion promotor before applying epoxy primer, then base/clear using flex additive. You don't need to buy a paintable bumper, just sandblast your chrome bumper, then epoxy primer, then base/clear.

Looks great, I've never seen the upper black plastic painted before. I couldn't decide to paint it or leave it black. That pic def made up my mind. Thats a sport grill also right? I didn't think the hood would close with that grill on a nonsport bumper?

That truck has pre-99 grill/bumper. They were the same for sport/non...

Just paint what you have. I've done it 4 times. I always use epoxy to glue that pesky gray bottom to the metal bumper so it doesnt come off 6 months later. I've done 2 98s and 1 97, and we just did my 03 too. All chrome was painted body color. Just have a good body shop to it and it will hold up well if they (or you) know what your doin...Here are pics. of the 03 let me see if I can find pics of any of the other...

When using Bulldog there is no need to use a flex agent. Bulldog is a ad pro/tie coat/flex agent all in one. As for the chrome part I would just hit it with an 80 grit DA.

You still should add a flex agent to the paint....doesn't matter whats under it. Thats like saying you don't need flexible anything because the bumper is flexible.:hehe:

I know that the bumpers were the same between sport and nonsport pre99 but it looks like he is using a 99-up sport grill. Its looks like it has a curved bottom not a straight bottom like the nonsports.
