I know that the bumpers were the same between sport and nonsport pre99 but it looks like he is using a 99-up sport grill. Its looks like it has a curved bottom not a straight bottom like the nonsports.

Now I see...you have a good eye! I looked again and it does look like a latter grill. Interesting hope he chimes back in, and that is a great looking 2nd gen too. BTW I'll beep if I see ya later, traveling to Warsaw this eve :)

it looks that that first pic the all red truck has a non sport bumper with a 99 and up sport grill how does that work?

Probably no chance of seeing me anytome soon since my truck is competely torn down for a p-pump swap...

sorry i've been away it is a sport grille with a non sport bumper. its all about the adjustment on the hood & bumper, dont forget to get the actual bracket that goes on to the hood. i would recommend gettin the a new top and bottom pad that are paintable.. just alot less chance of oil or anything being on it and messing with the paint. i scuffed my bumper pads and put plastic adhesive on them and have not had and problems out of them... thanks for all the compliments

Where do you find the one piece cover at? I like the idea of that better than painting the seperate pieces.

ok so do i get paintable stuff or prep what i got? and second how do you or what did you do to get that sport grill to fit with the non sport bumper. i thought the grill swung down so much lower on the sport modle?

like i said you just have to play with the aligment of everything... i would say get new paintable stuff... that can be expensive tho thats the only down side. like someone else said you can scuff what you got and CLEAN IT REALLY REALLY good with thinner. im not real sure on sandblasting the chrome i guess it would be the same thing. its worth a shot if that screws the bumper up then you will have a excuse to get a paintable bumper!

I painted the whole front bumber assem and grill it looked great!

So are you guys glueing the plastic pieces to the bumper then painting them? If so, what kind of glue are you using? Does the sport grille rub on the non sport bumper at all when adjusted right?

dont you need the sport bumper grill and hood latch if your actually going to do the conversion right???

That's what I did. I got sick of the the bottom gray pc. always catching wind and busting the tabs out of the mumper. Any good automotive epoxy will work, heck I've even used Liquid Nails Heavy Duty. Put it on so it squishes through where the holes in the steel are. Have plenty of BIG jawed vice grips around to clamp it down nice and tight. I did not paint my black pc. so I snapped it on after paint. White 97 we scuffed w/80 grit first, red 03 we sand blasted...

i have had no problems with the grille and bumper rubbing... yes you probally do need the sport grille, bumper, brackets, and grille bracket to do it right. but why spend all the money when it looks just as good i think? and i havn't used any glue or anything on my pads just replaced the rivets when i took them off

Ok.

Hit the chrome with 80g on a DA, then epoxy prime it. Then scuff, then paint

Plastic needs to be scuffed with a red scotch pad, primer containing flex additive, then painted with flex added to the paint too.

Re-assemble after paint. I would recomend Fusor #143(?) extreme bumper repair adhesive. Im not sure where you can get it though. We just have it a work.

Spread the glue on the clips when before you assemble it and on the back side after. I dont recomend painting it assembled as that would be highly likely to cause a problem with the paint flaking at the seems of the panels.

to fit the sport grill do you have to adjust the bumper down or what?

yes there is a fine line on adjusting the hood up just a little and the bumper just a little.. if you go to crazy with one or the other its gonna be a big gap between the hood and finder , or the bumper and headlights

what else besides the grille frame, sport grille and hardware do you need for the sport grille conversion?
