There are 2 distinctive types of piston bowl used in the COMMONRAIL QSB (aka; "rear geartrain") 6.7, that I have personally seen.
There is an on-road emissions compliant QSB piston (think Thomas busses and certain marine applications), which uses the 146 degree bowl, then there is an off-road version (stationary engines, forklifts, compressors, or pumps), which use the 128 degree bowls.

Here's a not-so-great pic of some QSB 6.7 offroad pistons:

Interesting...I always thought the only OEM 6.7 bowl was 148 or 146 whatever is around there. Learn somethin new everyday.

Anybody have info about a forged piston with a steel ring land?
 
So I'm gonna go off on a limb and assume the "off-road" QSB Pistons like shown above are NOT the ones you'd want to go with? The "on-road" are the go to?

When shopping noticed there's a big price difference between the mahles and oem cummins. Also see a lot of guys running the mahles. Anything to gain going oem cummins?

I'll add I'm planning on running a 03-04 injector

Got a set of 06 pistons cut coated on skirts and top 3k miles on them oem pistons
