first off--4 hi will get you broken parts unless you have your tranny built to take it--it can also cost you other things---

getblown5.9 is right-----4 lo is where you want to be--you also want the O/D turned off--that means the light on the dash is on saying OD OFF---you don't want your truck shifting into O/D and last but not least D is also where you should be---you want to get the most speed going and you're going to screw yourself out of speed by staying in 2nd gear---

Ammo22 --I think you want your tow/haul mode turned on, but I'm not really familiar with your truck, so a ford guy needs to answer you to be for sure----chris

Wheres 4th gear? Depends on the track. 3rd or 4th. Mostly 4th though. But I have a manual.

Wow, they looked like 35"s in the video, well, if you have 33's stick with them like house said. maybe look at a mild gear swap if you plan on pulling a lot in the future. I.E. if you have 3.54 gears in your differentials, change them to 4.10's. This would be the same as going to a shorter tire, giving you more rpm down the track and the ability to grab another hole.

I just found out it is geared 4.10
It seems like everyday, one of the boys tells me something new about Green. :bang

you can pull in 4th cause you have alot of mods. a closer to stock person might want 3rd gear right?

Ideally you want 33's with 4.1 gearing and get the converter locked up in 3rd. It can be done with 3.54s, but it will take alot of power to keep it in third.

Im an auto with 3.55s. When i pull i put the gear selector in 2nd at the line. Build about 10psi and just let it go. When it shifts to 2nd i lock the converter and finish the pull out like that. It takes quite a bit of power to run 3rd gear, especially with 3.55s. Ive tried to run 3rd before, i can run it for a little, but i fall under the charger at the end. Im much better off to stay in 2nd. Heres a clip of a local pull. Im the 4th truck that hooks.

For comparison, in the video TeddyBear posted, I am the 10th truck i think. I am gonna guess I am around 350hp, and I also ran 2nd gear 4 low locked up with 3:55 gears, so It gives you an idea of how much more power you would need to be able to run 3rd gear with 3:55's since 2nd was pulling me down at the end. 4:10's would make it a lot easier to run 3rd for sure. You just basically have to pull your truck and find out for yourself which gear it will handle, and what kills it out. I wouldnt run 4hi with an auto though. Too hard on the clutches:kick:

What gear did it take to accomplish this?? :hehe:

:owned: :hehe: 2nd gear locked up, just about ready to spin out. First hook of the year. Snapped another one last night in Stanford:bang . Will post pics soon

I put mine in D with o/d off or put it in tow/hual mode. I can hold 3rd I think don't really watch the guages I can post a vidoe of my first pull my edge recorded tire speed of 42 mph down the track. The guy that built my trans says to start in first then move it up on my own to Drive. He told me why but I didn't comprehend so I still pull in drive.

auto pulling

I run third locked with my auto and 4.10.s. Its not bad with 285's but 33 can give me a hand full on a hard track.

yes the tow/haul in low range will not let the trans shift into o/d

I've been hav'n pretty good luck running 3rd unlocked, I've got a build tranny and 3.73 gears. Am I hurting the converter running it unlocked?

Call you tranny builder. Mine says 3rd unlocked is fine.
