im going to be ppumping my 99 soon. ive gotten pretty much everything to ppump it by trading cause im workin on a shoe string budget. my question is this.. i was planning on throwing a hamilton cam in while i had it apart but it looks like i wont have the extra cash for the cam till spring or later probably. should i just go ahead and ppump it now and run the stock cam for awhile or wait till i get the $$ to buy the cam. ive been told it will still make good power with the stock cam and im not trying to spool a 3.0 charger. im gonna be running a 180 pump with full cuts, 5k gsk, sb 66/74/14 and lightning 3's. what do you guys think?

Thats about the same identical setup I'm running on my 99 and it is doing very well this year yanking the sled. I didn't have the money for a cam when I was doing my swap so I just put the stock one back in.

ive seen your truck run before. ran pretty good. actually it was at the warsaw test n tune. i really wanna put the cam in but dont have the cash and have been told that its not too terribly bad to pull it back apart to put the cam in. i mean its no small block chevy but still. aslong as it would be something i could do on a weekend when im home from school or something that would be fine by me.

Jackblack99- I'm offended that you think I am above trading . Try me. The worst that could happen is I don't want to trade. Seriously, these are crappy economic times so if we have to barter a bit I'm down. Besides I use to have some old cowboys come in the shop always wanting to trade various things for getting more power to pull their 4 horse slant. I always got a kick out of what they brought up it was great entertainment.

now that there is funny...a vendor that will trade...I find that a good quality, but I wouldn't advertise to awful much about that, they'll beat your door down.

That was actually my very first pull with the p-pump, i've got things figured out a little better now. You could easily swap the cam in a day and thats really taking your time and a few beers. :Cheer:

well the beer thing wouldnt be a problem for me cause i dont drink. so that wouldnt slow me down.

yeah, don't kick yourself too hard once you get it running and wonder why you wasted time and money with a VP setup... :hehe:

I just finished up a p-pump swap on my buddy's 2000, and man that thing is awesome! Everything worked out perfect, and is really a pretty easy task. We pretty much built the truck for the 2.6 sled pulling class. Here are a few pics.

And it is quite a bit of work to change cams, but if I were you and you had all the swap parts ready to go in without a cam I do it and then put the cam in later. Who knows you'll probably love it so much with a p-pump you won't want to tear it down for a cam!!

Thanks!

As far as the install or pump? The pump was from Scheid, 13mm plungers, and what ever else they do to them, 18* timing, fire ringed the head, DDP injectors. Had to clearance the head a bit to clear the old supply line to the pump, made brackets to mount kill cable, relocate ECM, removed factory fuel filter and installed a 2 micron on frame by raptor pump. Installed Scheid Cam and lifters, that was probably the most intense part of the whole swap. I was so afraid of dropping a new lifter into the oil pan. I'll try to think of more and post later.

Thanks again!

Dustin

looks good. thanks. im really thinkin of just doing it. ive talked to a few guys and they all said the stock cam worked great for them. hopefully it will work good for me untill i can get a new one.

My stock is working out fine for now. And I'm kinda glad I wait cause I want to see what kind of diff just a cam makes.
