project 30 mpg

Yea I'd say smaller turbo, and don't waste ur money on a mileage max, get the EZ or comp/juice. Cut a coil out of front springs, stay with a 265 tire, keep alot of air in em, and get bed cover.

You might be able to get 28-30 mpg with (good real diesel) in the summer but winter blend brings down my mpg bad. see if you can find a station that sells real fuel not bio or any blend crap.*bdh*

I had a '01 2wd short box 6-speed and was able to top 24 MPG at 65mph. That truck got better mileage than my '98 12V auto which is also a short box 2wd, which tops out around 22 at 65.

With the auto I say stick with the 3.54 gears, I don't think you'd gain hardly anything going with higher gearing.

Would'nt tall skinny tires like 255-85's help the gear ratio w/bigger rollout?

Don't forget the little things..

Lose weight where you can.

Ditch big towing mirrors for the smaller mirrors you can find (that still look reasonabily good and are functionable).

Pull the radio antenna if you don't listen to the radio.

Run the tires at their max cold PSI rating.

Every little bit will help.

A gear ratio swap is cheaper than a GV OD unit.

Would be nice to see someone try a super tall gearset. Lowering also helps as well as bed covers and such other stuff to stop high speed wind drag. Im sure the VP truck has to be run under 1900 to make mileage so pick a gearset that will put you there or under.

Also search around the VW snobs on the TDI forums have good intell on whos diesel has the best cetane and other specs. according to them its sometimes better to pay like 20 cent more to buy from a BP or CHEVRON and avoid the Loves and Pilot and other bottom barrel fuel. In a 50MPG TDI the improvement in cetane can offset the greater cost.

Focus alot on your wind drag. smaller mirrors, tonno covers, lowering and tightining the lines of the truck. I know not many of use are in to ground effects and such but if you do some resurch there are kits the eliminate alot of drag. Another thing you could look in to is propane injection. I dont know lots about it but what i do understand is it burns all the fual in the cylender thus making the engine more efficent, please correct me if im wrong. :rockwoot:
