ABOBB said:Actually the truck I work on has open diffs with the spiders shimmed very, very tight, a DLD t-case, and the small driveline! Knock on wood, it hasn't broken a driveline part all year!!!
The carrier is one piece on the open diffs and is a stronger setup anyway. The spiders shimmed or the carriers shimmed?? You can get away with the small driveline, but like I said, broken DLD worth about$50 probably $500 plus to fix it for an item that is work $400-$600 to if you sell it. Even worse is a D70, snap the pinion and your looking at about $400 if you pay someone to set it up for an item that is only worth $400 in good shape. I sold my D70, my DLD, and used parts of my rear driveshaft for my heavy duty front driveshaft. If it is only a puller, weld those open carriers up. Run them. I am guessing your probably under the point of the HP to break stuff. The D80 axles aren't much stronger. We have been through 3 of them.
