Q's about buying(i know i know)

Are the autos really that bad? Could I get a lockout converter and tie it to a toggle? Also what's the 5th gear nut on the manuals
 
You can swap to a 47RH ('94 or '95 CTD) and get a lock up converter. Non lock up is fine if you have realistic expectations for it.

The Getrag 5 speeds in the 1st gens did not have the 5th gear nut issue.
 
I've heard of 587 through a non-lockup VE....money will be your biggest concern!
 
Ya money is always the real question. I want to have a truck that I can build to what I want. I cannot buy a truck that is 100% what I wAnt so spending 50k is never going to be justifiable. But spending 30k for a truck I built to suit my needs is. When I get a 12v it will undergo a long transformation into my truck. But for a while ill just do little things.
 
518/46rh is a lot stronger than people give them credit for. And if you ever put $30k in to a 1st gen you are going to have a nice looking and fun to drive truck :nos:
