rebuild/seal kit for hydro boost?

Ok I started on this today. Kinda a pain to get the hydroboost out, but not terrible. You only use 2 seals from the kit. The instructions from moparman1973 were pretty complete, only a few differences.

I'm in search of the seal that goes between the master cylinder and hydroboost, mine was in 3 peices. I actually think this was the culprit but not postive. So hopefully ill be able to find one tomorrow morning.

Got mine done today. Only used 3 seals from the kit. Had the same issue as you bsmith, the seal between the master cylinder and hydroboost was toast. Pretty sure that seal is more of a moisture barrier than fluid containment so I used some permatex ultra grey to seal it off. Took a while to bleed all the air out but its working right. Only done a test drive around the block so cant say for sure my leak is fixed but it appears to be.

What's the 3rd one you used?

I wish I would have known about that seal, I paid 10 bucks and had to wait a day for it to come in.

Third seal was the very small valve that is flush mounted in the front half of the case. Wish there was a way to get the shaft out of the crimped end. Both those seals were leaking a very small amount.

Is that the check valve?

I think so. It fell out when I split the body. Wasnt sure which way it went back in. Lol. The exploded parts view saved me.

How could you tell it was leaking? I wish ida looked at mine better.

I just changed any seal I could. Lol. Not being able to change the 2 shaft seals because of the the crimped in rod has me concerned. The inside of the firewall is damp from ps fluid. Nothing major but its there and knowing my luck it will get worse now that I've messed with it. Haha

How long did ittake your steering to go back to normal? Mine feels like air is trapped or something.

Like like I don't have power steering. I only went down te road and back, it feels like it gets better then gets hard to steer again.

Anyone got any ideas?

I followed the bleeding instructions and it only took a couple minutes. My brake pedal feel is much better now. Not sure on your power steering problem. Have you done the full left and right clock of the steering? You have air in the system if its getting hard to turn.

Well I've turned it side to side a few times. It sounds like its low on fluid, that humming sound.

I've added fluid, it foams and overflows like its too full once it comes up to temp.

Still trying to get the air out. I'm out of ideas. I'm tempted to pull it off and go over it, make sure I put it tgether right.

Did you turn the wheel lock-to-lock multiple times while the front end was off the ground (and also pump the brakes)? Let it sit for a while, top the fluid off, and repeat.

I did that but I didn't jack the front end up. Does that matter?

Eh, it's not like you're running a dry pump so go ahead and start it up. As you go it should get easier to turn and you should see less foam.

Ok I jacked it up, turned it to each side mutiple times. Its easier jacked up but once I lowered it, it is hard again. It isn't foaming or humming though.

I pumped my brakes so hard, I must have cracked a line or something. Bled the brakes, it feels a little better but probably needs another bleeding.

How long should it take to get the air out the lines?

It's not supposed to get hard when it goes down. LOL

Just be patient. Did you shut the truck off and give it a while in between? Sounds like you've got a lot of air. It's not going to be fine in two minutes, but it shouldn't take all day.

Well I've messed with it a few hours each day. Just getting a little frustrated now.

I'm glad I found this site and post. I'm working on a '97 Cummins with the same leak. I am trying to find out if this same kit fromPirate Jacks will fit this year truck. I've emailed them and called, but no response. Thanks in advance, any insight is appreciated.
