Reliability of O-rings

I have been thinking about fire rings vs. o-rings and I think that there is too many things that can go wrong with fire rings. This leads me to o-rings, which I thought I was going to do until I pondered on it some more. If you o-ring a 3rd gen then you have to use a 2nd gen gasket. It seems to me that a 3rd gen multi layered steel gasket with ARP 625 studs that are torqued to 150 ft/lbs would actually have a better chance of holding than an o-ringed head with a 2nd gen head gasket with 625 studs. I would think that a gasket that has a layer of steel in it, would have less of a chance of breaking or moving than a regular o-ringed gasket. What are you guys opinions/experiences with this?
