Who has one?
How many passes through the 1/4 mile or WOT runs on kill, without breaking things on the engine?

The day we installed the mp8, a piston melted,

put in a brand new stock block/pistons just after 1600 km on the new motor, the engine fried again! now it wont even start.

Before that happened injector(s) was suspicios, truck belched lots of white smoke in the morning till it warmed up, and ran rough.
also it had injector rattle/knock, before boosting up.

How should i fix it? what should i order?

Sounds like you have all kinds of issues there... maybe if you could give us a complete list of everything you have done on there we might be able to provide some insight... The only thing I seem to wreck on my truck is turbos and trannys

Been over 800 for well over a year now, actually going on 1-1/2 years and 45K miles. No trips down the track, but plenty of WOT runs up to the end of 6th gear. Just had the head off 3 weeks ago and everything looked good inside at 100K miles. :D

sounds like it all started with a cracked injector or bad injector. when you put the mp8 on there all the rail pressure proly cracked an injector which is the cylinder that melted and also the reason why you fried the engine all over again and why it belches white smoke and has a bad injector knock. It wont be fixed until you replace the injectors.

Just got my build finished....Not quite at 800 yet but close..

I'll be racing, daily driving / street playing, and a occasional towing with this truck....

We'll see if it last!!

BTW, a bad injector was my cause of the smoking, sputtering, non-starting issue.....And eventually led to my Melted Piston!!!!

thanks to everyone who posts here.

The mods to the truck are in my sig

I was not driving the truck, i was very suspicios of the injector, and told the guy driving it the day before that it could be an injector, and could lead to another melted piston, i told him about Big Swole's problem, well he didnt listen,

anyway, i think ill have the injectors sent back to F1, to check and fix? or what should i do there?

Also i read Big Swole is just sleeving the damaged piston, and go with std size, is that reliable on a high HP truck? or should we rather bore all up to .20 over and go with bigger pistons on all 6?

Btw pockets are empty by now...

Not sure where you read that.....I didn't have to sleeve it at all....I was VERY lucky that my block honed stardard....No boring or Sleeving required!!

So I've got 6 stardard pistons and ring kits!!

I'll have an answer for you in a few days. I had to sleeve one hole and they are all bored 20 over. Will be running Flux 4.3's and a shot of N20. Dropped compression slightly also. I was leery of sleeving as well, but the gurus on here said it should be fine, so I said "What the Hell":hehe:

I know hind sight is 20/20 but when you saw the white smoke and rough idle at start you should have pulled the injectors then. More than likely you already had a burnt piston at that point or a possible bad injector and the MP8 finished it off. I had to go into my motor last summer the first time and I had those exact same symptoms and it was 2 burned pistons. It would still run great but it had rough start and white smoke until it warmed up a bit. If there is one thing I have learned in the last couple of years messing with these expensive bastards is, if there is anything out of the ordinary with startup (white smoke, rough idle, etc) STOP running it and pull the injectors at minimum. just my $.02

Good advice

it was a cold start but, it doesn't matter if it's 90F or 20F... it will do that. Typical of a decompressed truck.

My wifes totally stock truck will blow white smoke sometimes until it's warm. It even says in the owner manual the truck will do that.

I'm not saying white smoke should be ignored but, it doesn't always mean there's a problem.

I just meant anything not normal. Sure some will white smoke, etc when its cold, but if you notice something out of the ordinary then start checking. Its just a matter of knowing your trucks little quirks and peculiarities.

I'm eagerly awaiting my oil report I sent in last week. that and the excessive "smoke signals" when it's cold kinda worry me a little. I'm pondering having the bodies checked out, tested, etc.

I burnt say, 1/2 quart of oil over a 900mile round trip. mostly at 80mph, the tail end I was 85-100 for about 50 miles.

Zero blow by on the bottom of the truck, clean as can be for winter. I know some oil sneaks by the turbo, just curious as to how that much soot gets in the oil.

Big Swole, Sorry i thought i had read that, i just reread your tread, and you dont mention sleeving it. I must have read it somewhere else. Do you still see jeff? just wondering if you could ask him what he would think about sleeving one cylinder on a 800-1000 hp truck.

So if boring up to .20 over, i believe one would have to have all 6 done right?
If so what do those pistons run? just comparing them to the mexican price.

Those who have rebuilt and engine, please let me know whats best?

Well I pulled the head yesterday and found 2 melted pistons...
1 and 6

this is a cold engine start up, smoked and missed, till engine got warm.

We live at over 6000 feet elevation, havent looked at the egt gauge lately on a Wot run, but i believe it hits 1600 in the 1/4 not sure in the 1/8,
Happened with smarty TNT-R on SW9, Timing Default (2)
MP8 = 100%

opinions are welcome

how smokey are the runs? SW9 is a bit much on TNT/R unless your getting near 1000hp mark is it not?
