rockwell question

disturbed do u run a reverser, or a stock trany. and will a dana 80 hold up in a 3.0 truck??

I run a reverser for the weight factor, it is about 30lbs. compared to a stock tranny at hundreds of pounds. I do how ever run a stock 5sp bellhousing. The reason is, is that i had just bought a weighted Comp puller clutch the season before and it wont fit in a can. So bought a new bellhousing and sent it to haisley and had Van fab up a plate to mate the housing to the reverser works great. If i remember right i have about $300 in that setup (125 for the housing and 150 or so for van to machine the plate), It beats $5k for a can and new clutch. As for the 80 i ran a pretty hot 2.8 charger on my truck last year and had no problems i kinda felt if i went any hotter i would have to do something different, just that uneasy feeling you get when you let out on the clutch and wait to hear something go bang, i know SCS makes a nice setup for the 80 cant remeber how expensive they are but i had looked into them.

If the rules allow it run a big driveline, it will be cheaper in the long run, and your down time will be next to nothing.

I run a dropbox thats the only way to go. Im not fond of the 205 i have seen alot of them break in the gas trucks they wont hold up to a diesel, if the gasser cant keep them together. Most of the guys around here put profab parts in them and still destroy them. If you are going to the trouble to put the big rear in spend the money for the dropbox its well worth the insurance and you could still run the 2wd tranny in front of it and with all the different gear sets, you can really fine tune your setup.

i was going to run the 205 and dana 60/80 once i step up to the 3.0 class.........if i built a open driveline truck it would get a reverser/dropbox setup into a H172.......the front 60 would consist of 40 spline shafts (NOT CHEAP) all the way through with a air locker and drive slugs at the stubs........

How big of a clutch will fit in a ProBell? Is'nt it like 14" total, with a starter ring? Or can you get them in different diameters? Are the Crower clutches that much smaller in diameter as compared to say a Haisley Comp Puller?

I just measured the spare bellhousing for our alcohol truck it is 14 1/4, the flywheel on my comp is 15 1/4 which means you would need a 15 1/2 to 15 3/4 bellhousing to go over a dodge flywheel to my knowledge they dont make one that big. I was going to run the lakewood just couldnt justify the price besides you could run their new triple comp inside my stock bellhousing if you wanted with a blanket on it.

dont you run a triple disk???? how much should a complete setup run from the block back........bellhousing, clutch, can, reverser, intermediate shaft, drop box, driveshafts......rearend will most likely be welded and no drums or brakes......

Depending if you get a deal or not $10-15K depending what rear you run and what you put, parts wise in them. My driveshafts cost 2k, profab dropbox 2k, profab reverser 2k, hayes clutch and can from lakewood 5k-6k(which i dont run) and then the rear i paid 750 for my stock H172

What is the lowest numerically gear ratio that came in the F106? Does any aftermarket manufacturer make ring and pinions for them?

i know your running the 6.20 gears in the axle, what gear are you running in the drop box????

I run 800, 850, 900 with the 850 being the gear i run most and turn the motor about 5200rpms

I have a 106 under the truck right now. The 172 will go under it this winter. I havent looked into aftermarket parts for it yet. Thought i would get atleast a couple season on the 106 before going to the 172 but got maybe 20 hooks and im still not sure i couldnt continue to run it, but for $750 compared to a new motor im going to go ahead and change it. The axles in the 172 are like 2 1/4" thick i will have to do some calling around to see how much you can put them through before having to beef them up. It will probally be stock for the winter, i want run some indoor pulls and then build in the spring

Yeah, I was wondering if my clutch would fit in a can, and it sounds like it won't, so I will probably run a 5 speed bellhousing into a reverser.
